Hood Emblem
HI,
I was wondering if anyone had changed their hood emblem as I was wondering what actually holds it on (it's very hard to see in there) and of course if there was an easy way to do it.
Thanks :seeya

Re: Hood Emblem (schwab)
Thanks for that, I looked in there and there were no nuts so that confirmed it to me that it was only held on with 2 sided tape. Gave it a little tap from behind and it came right off.
Hope it's warmer over there than it is here I need a heater in the garage but would rather spend the money on the car. :D

Once you get the nuts off, put plumbers putty or similar sticky substance on the nuts before you put them back. Makes next time alot easier.

OK....Your going to laugh, this was one of the first things I replaced on my car. I keep loosing the nuts, they fell into the hood. I could not find replacements, so..... I went to Home Depot and walked around and found rubber washers from sinks that worked out quite well. They just push on with a little help, and they don't move....REALLY. :yesnod:

Re: Hood Emblem (My 88 C4C)
The self threading nuts are made of steel, so get a magnet and it will fish them out no prob... I am changing mine as we speak (got them off this afternoon, Zaino is next, THEN the new emblems go on). Also a very good idea to put plumbers putty on it so they will stick to the socket when you put them back on.

Do or did any of you have grommets covering the access holes for the emblem on the underside of the hood? Because I saw a part number listed for them in the parts catalog the other day. I have yet to find anyone who had them on their car from the factory.... still looking though. :) I don't know if mine were lost or if they never came on the car to begin with. ~Juliet

Re: Hood Emblem (baddmann)
My nuts just weren't there at all but I might try the magnet to see if they are still in the hood otherwise I'll have to get some new ones.

I replaced my hood and fuel door emblems due to the fact that the red was coming off the fuel door emblem. At Carlisle last year, I found some real nice chrome ones. It says Collector Edition. Now, I'm not one of those guys who puts ZR1 badges on my car, so I'm not trying to pass my car off as a Collector Edition. But, on the black paint , I really like the way it looks.

Re: Hood Emblem (Casper)
If the pasts on the emblems have no nuts, then it has probably been replaced before. Replacements come with 2 sided tape only. Also MAD sells repro. emblems and I replaced my black originals and used the chrome ones and it looks very good (they have them without CE on them)

I replaced front and rear last month. Bought original equipment from Chevy dealer.
The front also had the studs. [metal] I used two sided tape on the socket to keep the nuts from falling off while trying to tighten them..
The putty idea sounds pretty good too.
