ZR1 brakes cleaned up and painted. I installed drilled and slotted rotors plus hawk hps+ pads, and new stainless steel braided brake lines. Such a great combo.

Stock Z51 setup. They can fade from 100-0 (especially with repeated application of same), but I rarely drive it like that any more. Car's a DD in summer.

Pretty decent otherwise. Just keep the wheel sensors clean to eliminate ghost ABS faults.

Hi

Dont bag the stock early brakes, they need high friction brake pads to work well.

Replace the brake fluid with dot 4 fluid, get some Hawk street or Hawk hp plus brake pads and never have brake fade again.

I tracked my 85 with the original single piston callipers for many years, never got brake fade on the track. Motion sickness usually stops me. The brake fluid is most important it absorbs moisure and needs to be replaced regularly, and good brake pads you want good brakes.

I put the J55 option twin piston callipers and 13 inch discs on to fill the wheels, plus they were dirt cheap on ebay
They do grab very nicely, improved braking overall with minimal pedal effort.

The slotted discs are great, you can spray the discs with water and they bite instantly. They are a bit noisy when really stomping on the brakes hard.

I do need to replace the fluid in my car. In 13 years I haven't, and who knows how long it was for the previous owner. And it was in storage for 4 of those years that I've had it.

I do have some DOT 4 around here somewhere. Just need my buddy's hoist for an hour or so.... I think the pads are good. I haven't had the wheels off since the last tire change.
