Default LightWeight Carbon Fiber Hood

I was looking to remove weight from my autox car and went searching for a light weight carbon fiber hood. After being misled once, fortunately I kept all correspondence and got most of my money back. The second attempt turned out to be good. I purchased this hood from Exotic Muscle. The hood looks original; no vents and no higher rise than stock, but it is definitely light weight as advertised. The hood came in at 30lbs without the splash shields and latches. After I added the splash guards and latches it added close to 10lbs. So, the net weight comes in at 40lbs without headlights compared to the stock hood at 80lbs. So, the hood saves 40lbs total. Not a lot of weight, but that's 40 less lbs to have to stop or carry forward or laterally.

The hood fit pretty good though it did take some adjusting to get it squared up. Professional body shop guys are doing the work on the hood. Here are some picts below showing how the hood arrived and how it looks now on the car. I will post additional picts when completed.

Thanks for the info.

Im looking into a lightweight hood.

the qwik z06 one would be perfect if it was lighter...i am willing to pay extra for lighter weight.

Its good to know this exotic muscle cf hood is still available - i cant imagine they move a whole lot of them anymore.

Also interesting about the latches and fenderwheels. yeah, every cf hood manufacturer is going to quote their hood barebones vs. stock weight that includes that stuff.

Is there exposed weave on the inside, but the outside is primered?

what role is the body shop doing? Just painting?

There is exposed weave on the inside and they may do different finishes on the outside. I did tell them I was going to paint it. The body shop is aligning the hood and painting the hood. I originally thought about removing some of the inner structure, but I cut a piece out of it and I think it was light so I didn't think it would save that much more weight vs the support it provides. The hood has more flex than the stock hood does. I don't think it would break but I wouldn't want to be on track at 135 and the hood flexing inward. It could mess with aerodynamics.

If your goal is weight savings, this is the hood I would suggest. As far as cost. I will probably end up @ $4K total.

The door shells themselves aren't that heavy. It is just the widows and regulator and door panel that is heavy.

They can get other parts in cf but I don't know if any additional parts would drop much weight compared to factory body parts. Maybe someone else with other components could chime in.

Yeah, I'm going nuts waiting for the season to get under way. First event not until mid April here as well.

Quick update just FYI; spoke with body shop guys today and letting me know they were purchasing paint Thursday and may get started by this weekend on the painting. I did ask how the hood fitment went and they said it fit nice for an aftermarket hood. They didn't have to spend too much time aligning it. The most time consuming thing was just getting the hood pins lined up with the latches. I retained the stock latches. I had thought about using some nice hood pins but I would have still had to keep the factory latches to have a place to mount the pins so, there would not have been much if any weight savings.

Close to being finished. Hood and other spots around the car are painted. Car just needs to be buffed now. Hope to pick up this weekend. Can't wait to see it in person.

Complete- Picked it up last night- paint matches, lines up nice, looks like the stock hood, but saves net 40lbs.
