Need some encouragement
My 87 is starting to get me down. It seems like the list of things that need to be done is getting longer, and longer. Left headlight only goes down when it feels like it, the ride is squirrelly when hitting bumps in curves, got a leak where headers meet exhaust, losing brake fluid from I dont know where, the targa top is cracked AGAIN, brand new alternator only puts out 12.1v at idle. And there are other things I'm forgetting. I love this car and won't sell it, but right now I just want to put it in my garage, and forget it. What would you guys do?

Your own idea is spot on. Put her in the garage and forget about it for a few weeks. When you feel like starting the work you will have a new outlook after a needed rest. I have done this many times when building one of my classic trucks. A few weeks away does wonders.

Been there myself man. You just have to chip away one little piece at a time and suddenly one day you're working on it cause you like it. You don't really need to, but you're fiddling with something just for the fun of it. When I look back at all the things I've done, it looks like an impossible list, was I crazy? Yes I was but I'm better now.

Anyone that has owned an old car has been where you are. Pick one thing (preferably the brakes) and fix just that. Then move on to something else. Tackling the problems one at a time is not as overwhelming as trying to fix everything at once. Besides, baseball season has been over in Boston since oh, June, so you should have plenty of spare time. Good luck !

I now get down and dirty and look at everything because it saves money... one mechanic told me the whole exhaust system needed replacing... no it didn't... all that was wrong with it was a leaking exhaust gasket which once done fixed the problem.
The mechanic also said the engine needed the head looked at... no it didn't... there was a small coolant leak coming from the water pump gasket.
And on and on.
I enjoy the car because the things that pop up get me into the car more... yes, there are times just to do something else, so I get on my motorbike and that clears my head very quickly.
I see my C4 as a continual work in progress... but what a beautiful car they are... worth every effort.

Keep in mind that your '87 is over 25 years old. Also, despite what some people say about C4's, they are not like a typical daily driver. I had my battery and alternator on my '86 quit on the same day.
I'm guessing that some of the items on your list are relatively minor and can be corrected by yourself at little cost. Others may be more major but you can tackle them one at a time.
The C4 is still a very special vehicle. Don't let the problems get you down.
