Oil filters
Has anyone ever had a oil filter fail/blow out? My 93 is stock and i just had a fram leak BAD. I got it off and its sitting in pan with 5 qts of mobile 1. Anyone have a favorite? This is a first for me. Im lucky it happened in my driveway i noticed it as i was backing out of carport.

..My first choice is "Wix", my second choice is "Purolator PureOne"...
..There are more expensive filters, but these do a good job and are in the medium price range.....WW.

Did the filter can rupture where it seals to the top? I have seen a couple of Fram filters at our shop where there were indications of a leak at that place.
Like others, I won't even consider a FRAM filter. If you cut the FRAM filter open, you will see some sort of cheap paper filter media. Do the same with a AC Delco, WIX, Purolator, or even a Mobil-1 or K&N filter and you will immediately notice the big difference in the filter media.
I use a Mobil-1 filter on my '87 (the larger pickup truck filter) and my supercharged '02. They cost about twice the price of AC Delco filters but they both seem to work fine.
Another good filter is the NAPA Gold.
Like others, I won't even consider a FRAM filter. If you cut the FRAM filter open, you will see some sort of cheap paper filter media. Do the same with a AC Delco, WIX, Purolator, or even a Mobil-1 or K&N filter and you will immediately notice the big difference in the filter media.
I use a Mobil-1 filter on my '87 (the larger pickup truck filter) and my supercharged '02. They cost about twice the price of AC Delco filters but they both seem to work fine.
Another good filter is the NAPA Gold.

Believe me, your not the first to have problems with Fram filters, the net is full of bad storys about Fram...I had one collapse on me, sending my oil pressure down to almost zero.. I wouldn't use Fram again if they gave me a lifetime free supply......My first choice is "Wix", my second choice is "Purolator PureOne".....There are more expensive filters, but these do a good job and are in the medium price range.....WW

Main reason I always used A/C Delco, and haven't had any issues.

I use AC Delco on my Corvette, Motorcraft on the wife's Ford, and Wix on the Cub Cadet mower. I personally have never had a problem with Fram but a LOT of people do not like them.

I agree fram filters are JUNK.I have never heard anything good about fram in all the years I've been around machinery.How they stay in business is a puzzler?Can't go wrong with Wix,AC...

It wasn't because of the old double gasket trick was it? Sometimes when changing the filter the o-ring will come out and be stuck to the oil filter adapter and if you don't catch it you'll have two stacked together when the new one is installed and it'll either blow out or leak when you start the engine.

I use K&N filters. Then have a hex like nut on the base that makes it easy to use a wrench to get them off. If you do a little searching on the net (Amazon) you can you can find at a reasonable cost.

I always check that old gasket comes out with old filter. I had it happen one time on another car. Yeah im lucky i saw the oil on the dry gravel. If had been my regular time it would have been dark and?? Lucky

Going back to 1965, I have only seen 2 reasons why any brand of oil filter leaked, on a stock motor.
1) As mentioned above, a old gasket was left on, especially back in the days of the canister type. Can still happen today.
2) As mentioned above, a leak around the top of gasket. Every time I have seen this, it was due to top being slightly crushed/dented, due to moronic shipping and handling personnel.
I always inspect top area very closely, no matter what brand...
