Default Help , Muffler touching tire

I removed the exhaust to install the hurst shifter. Installed fine and shifter is cool.

But after returning back the catback , the left muffler touches the tire !! I don't know why and the muffler shop says there has to be some cutting in order to fix this problem !! I think he is not right about the cutting because nothing was done, just removed and install back !

flowmaster mufflers with custom x-pipe

LEFT TIRE

Right tire

Can you guys measure the distance on your car , between the muffler and tire.

The question is... did you measure the distance between the old (before install) and new set (after) mufflers?

I didn't change the mufflers, just painted them black.

Didn't measure before removing the catback, but it wasn't so close like that.

How do the tips look? You may have to loosen everything up and shift the exhaust back over to were it was.

Loose those clamps, and use your imagination.

To close to the left, push the whole system to the right.

I have installed the Corvette Central Magnaflows and rear Y with crossover pipe on 3 different L98s. I had the same problem with my last install. I tried everything and finally in frustration took it to the local hot rod shop. They cut a small piece off the front of the muffler inlet pipe and put it back together - worked fine after that!

Please correct me if I am wrong however I thought that Magna Flows and Flowmasters were supposed to fit without any alterations. I wanted to just mount mufflers on and not worry about going from the cats back but now I am beginning to wonder if I should.

It does look like one of the pipes at the front end didn't get inserted far enough. The difference in distance between the before and after pics looks like it can easily be corrected by loosening the clamps in front and moving the system to the right. Exert some forward pressure on the system while moving it.

Once you have the distances equal on both sides, tighten down the clamps and install the hanger bracket at the differential.

I will try this when taking it to exhaust shop.

UPDATE :

Went to the shop, we loosened the clamps little. Tried to move the system and the tips look fine from behind. The muffler moved just a little from the tire. The right still far while the left is close. It's about an inch and a half.

Its better than before.

Time to search for new catback system, i never liked the flowmasters

I have a really good eye for this kind of stuff and when I loo at the exhaust system laying on the ground to me it looks bent and not symmetrical like it should be. It could be the picture or I could be wrong, but to me it looks bent out of shape.

Another reason i found that the flowmaster system on corvette central catalog doesn't come for 92+ , so the one installed is for 91 and below.

Eliminate mufflers. Problem, solved. Prolly will sound cool with the custom X pipe.
