I have two C4's. An '84 Z51 with a Tremec and a '91 FX3 with a ZF6speed. Both very fun cars to drive and I've found them both very easy to work on.

The question should be why are not the other C4 owner's not joining the club. Except for the early high H.P. C3's the C4 is a way better car. I wouldn't loose any sleep over it Learn to drive your C4 properly and no one will look down on you. Just be thankful that you don't own a Porsche 944 and are a member of PCA then you will know what being shunned really feels like.

Great thread. Good discussion of the C4 value and respect level without whining. I think the abundance of crappy looking C4s thatvsurvive hurt the perception of the car. When is the last time you saw a ragged out C2 driving around? 1985 or so, probably. The C4 is, overall, the equal of all Corvettes that came before.

Nothing but love for my C4.
I've never heard anyone say a single disparaging thing about it, even with the clear lifting off around the rear deck lid.

Most see it is a nice old car, and quite a few see it as cooler than the C6 and C5.

No.

Please let me know when a C7 comes up for sale at 12K...

As a current owner of a C6Z06 as well as a 96 Grand Sport I wanted to say how much I enjoy driving the GS. It is not in the same league as the Z from any measurable performance category, but it is a fun car to drive and I personally love the way it looks inside and out. If I could only keep one car it would be the C4. To anyone who has a well cared for C4 hold your head high.... These are fine cars and and is the model that provided a quantum leap in every measurable way over the previous generation (late C3's) my C6Z would not be the insane car that is without the c4

The mileage, condition, and most importantly the color made the decision to buy the car.

I must correct myself. The color was the deciding factor, not the most important...

"Extolling"...

I have no idea what the word means...

Want my best guess based on the context?

My take on it is that people buy Corvettes for different reasons. As it was posted before, the C4 is neither a classic nor cutting edge. The C4 in the end of the day was designed as a hard core drivers car for max handling. The car is one of the smallest of the line and puts the driver low between the frame rails as we know. Corvettes always sold better when they were more user friendly. Just look at the sales numbers of the late C3's and then when the C5 came online. After the C4, the car has been stretched, widened, and changed (i.e. rear tranny) to accommodate a more comfortable entry/exit, and to fit golf bags for instance. Not that there's anything wrong with that, IMO. Just a change of course to try and keep the sales figures up. All of the passengers over 65 in my C4 had great difficulty getting in and out of it and this has to affect the resale. And because of that, I like the car more of course.

So the C4 is more of a sports car where the C5 and up are GT's. Americans have a preference of a GT and the demise of sports cars is very much a sign of the times. Small sports car either are blasted as being feminine or do not sell well. Lotus doesn't have a footprint here at this time and I'm curious on how the new Alfa Romeo 4C will sell. Neither brand would be really considered by most vette fans with $50k-$75K in their pockets. Also there's a pecking order on how much you spend on a new Vette as demonstrated by the different and expensive options offered, especially with the C6.

So I'll stop when I see vette club gatherings, admire the cars, and then go do what the C4 is best at--driving.

C4s, especially TPIs, make pretty good autocrossers.
