Default C6 wheels fit C4?

I have someone that wants my stock C6 wheels to put on a 1984 C4. The rear wheels have a 79mm backset compared to a stock C4 backset of 40 t0 54mm. I think the fronts maybe ok? I know someone has already done this, will it work and is a spacer needed? Thanks.

Base C6 wheels will fit the 84-87 C4 using 0.94" and 1.36" wheel adapters.

0.94" wheel adapters will be needed on the 8.5" wide front wheel and 1.36" wheel adapters will be needed on the 10.0" wide rear wheel.

I would really like to hear any answers to this, I don't want to sell someone wheels that don't fit. Thanks.

They can be done but there's the price of spacers/adapters that will be required for both the front and the rear when used on anything '87 or earlier.

If your fronts are 8.5 an ideal fit that would place the tire/wheel at optimal tread width would be something near 31mm. An off the shelf 1" or 1.25" would do and keep the expense to a minimum. I'd do the 1.25" and I doubt issues. 1" less money likely.

For the rears 35mm accomplishes the same but likely 1.5" would be less expensive.

I assumed your wheels are 8.5 @ 56 for the front, 10 @ 79 for the rear with the optimal wheel for the early car being 9.5 @ 38. Is that what your wheels actually are? It would be cast into the wheel on the back-side.

Is there people that use different dimensions? Likely but I tried to optimize the placement.

If 25mm is about 1 inch that sounds right. So, 1'' on front and 1.5 " on rear should fix it. Why did early C4s have 40mm offsets and later ones 50 to 55mm? Were the fenders or the trailing arms that much different? The Grand Sports with fender well extensions or ZR1's with 11 inch wheels had hardly any offset compared to C5 and C6 wheels.

Don't be concerned with the differences - they're just different and offsets can't be "generalized" - conversations need to be on a car by car situation and shouldn't be mixed with others conversations. The 31 and 35 more closely replicate ideal wheel placement and like I mentioned maybe the other dimensions might be less expensive. Are they? I'd check.

Not to throw another log on the fire here, But: My FIAT wrench in Nevada, TX (Master Yoda) told me not to go to a 14" or 15" wheel because my FIAT was designed to run 13" wheels. He said the taller wheels would make it handle "like a pig on stilts." Needless to say, I replaced my old tires with 13" Toyo racing tires.

Master Yoda campaigns six racing teams of FIATs, Alfas, Lancias, and Ferraris.

I put C6 rims on back and the front. 19 back and 18.5 on fronts. I did use a spaces for the back. the front has plenty of room.

I have C6 wheels on my 87. Should be the same as the 84. I had 35 mm adapters made for the front and 38mm adapters made for the rear. I get a little rubbing on the inside of the rear. But that is with the rear lowered a bit.

35mm is a match for the 1.25 I suggested and 38mm is a match for the 1.50 I mentioned also and suggested because it may be less expensive. Here in the US everything like adapters are still done using other than "metric" so if you use their language and terminology monetarily it's generally to your advantage.

Your experience wasn't relative to the OP's question. Your car is a later C4 and the suspension components are different requiring different "wheel fitment".
