1984 with Metal Trim Tag?
#2
Don't know about the VIN cut-off but yes the early cars did have a metal trim tag right side at hood latch support. It would have had sequence number, color upper/lower and the sequence number I believe. You had he opportunity to "snapshot" one and should have.
Cars with the metal 'trim-tag" I don't believe got the SPID label. Could the SPID label have been sent to the owners after the sale? I don't know.
I believe the book "Collectors Originality Guide" Corvette C4 will verify that.

Hi, I just checked under hood of mine (built June '83) and didn't see any metal trim tag-I dont know when they started making '84's? June '83 may not be that early-not sure. I have sticker on rear of driver's door.

Ive seen a few early cars, the last being an 85 that had this tag.The holes should be there in all of the early cars,my 84 had the holes.I pried the tag off an early car in a wrecking yard once, have no idea where it is.I should have clarified my answer, very few cars had the trim tag, just because most dont have the tag does not mean somebody removed it,85s were not the only early cars that may have had the tag and Im not sure exactly what info is on the tag,not sure if its a trim tag or for some other info.

mY 85' has the same aluminum rivetted trim tag in the p/s hood latch support. But mine has specs stamped in German.I always thought it was a German import TUV ( Technischer Überwachungs-Verein )registration of the car since i live in Italy and most of our Vettes come from Germany and Holland.i will post a pic

Nice. Was it an early or late VIN?
I just Googled Tom Falconer's "Collectors Originality Guide" for C4, and then "Looked Inside" for trim tag. Lo and behold, on page 12 of his book is a photo of a 1984 trim tag VIN 17,537. So it looks like the '84s still had them to that point, the second week of September. By the way that trim tag is kinda cool: it has code 33 for Bright Red paint, not 70 or 72.

I always though 33 was the correct code for red in '84 - you mention 70 and 72?
