C4 parts are very inexpensive. Everything on these cars is about the same price, if not less than the price for parts for another regular car.

Average maintenance costs are about the same as other cars' average maintenance costs.

I find that in the first month or two of you buying an old car, stuff will break once a week or so, after that "break in" period, stuff breaks at the same rate as other cars.

I feel like the break in period happens on all cars honestly lol

Look at it as an opportunity to upgrade like I do.

Prices are often less for C4 parts than for newer post 2000's regular cars like say a 2007 Nissan Altima. C4's just need more TLC, because of their age and miles.

If you can find a (relatively) low mileage, well maintained, preferable garage kept C4 maintenance should be relatively low and reliability high.

Definitely budget some cash for quick fixes right away. My car was a garage queen with the prior owner, so a few things broke within my first 4-6 weeks of ownership.

Danger, danger...

Beware....

good high quality c4 part prices are not less than other cars.

Example: i can get a $69 rebuilt in china optispark, but id rather have a $700 acdelco new old stock optispark.

And now...just because you pay a high price for a part from a dealer & it comes in an acdelco box...doesnt mean its a quality part anymore. Acdelco has contracted out to china many c4 parts that used to be quality made

You need to do some homework and know what to look for.

Many times, id rather have a used boneyard c4 genuine acdelco oem part vs. A shiny new big box retailer's equivalnet white box part.

I've had my '89 for two years. 66k miles now, garage kept and well maintained by the PO (and me so far). In about 11k miles of ownership, I've had to replace an alternator. Issues that need attention now: tires, sagging headliner, power antenna repair/replacement, pretty much normal stuff for a 25 y/o car.

I would say that the good parts are just as expensive, and some far more expensive. Little things like switches and relays can bit either or, depending on how vette-specific they are.

If its low miles, the maintenance won't be that bad. Once you get over 120K or so then just about everything is going to be replaced. I think I did everything on my 86 between 120-150K, except the PS pump.

Be proactive about replacing with good parts and she won't leave you stranded on the side of the road.

You can purchase good parts if you look for the better manufacturers.

Take a look at Rockauto.com for parts in the future.

I'm replacing a $300 window regulator right now! I don't call that cheap! My new alt was only $68, new radiator $96, new fan motor $14, so some parts are cheap, some aren't.

Corvette recycling yards are your friend. I like www.vette2vette.com but there are others out there too.

I bought my '92 a little over 12 years ago. Replaced the Optispark within the first month. After that nothing but oil/filter changes. But it was purchased with only 7K miles on it....
