1994 C4 Starts and Quits quickly
Hello: I just picked up a 1994 6 speed a really pretty Polo green.
It will start and quit after a couple of minutes. Does anyone have an idea what may cause this problem? I have only had this a few days , if anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
I used to have a 1987 and sold it a few years ago. I always wanted a Polo Green later model C4 and now I have it I just can't drive it yet. LOL

This is a question with many possible causes. First you will need to establish that you still have full fuel pressure in the fuel rails when the engine dies (40+ lbs). Seems highly likely you are loosing fuel pressure.
If you are then you have fuel delivery issues.
If fuel pressure holds then you need to establish that you still have spark at the plugs when cranking.
Once you can establish which system (fuel or spark) is at fault then the job becomes a bit more manageable.

Thanks Cruizin I have a fuel pressure gauge so I will begin there. I watched a video on you tube of a guy that says that the ground strap from the frame to the bell housing was his problem. I haven't taken a look at that yet but will also check that. Wayne

This article describing the engine start sequence may help isolate your issue a little more. Its a bit dated in bright blue...
Its for the 85-90 L98 engine but the sequence will be much the same.

I'd check the following:
1-Fuel pressure (idle and under load)
2-IAC
3-Possible Opti-Spark failure...they crap out differently when they do let go. But you generally see/experience other drivability issues too.

Thanks KYC4 I started it today started right up and only ran for less than one minuite. I was able to rev it a couple of times. Actually to me it does seem like it runs out of fuel. When I get it home I will do the fuel pressure check and go from there. Thanks Wayne
