Default 1984 antenna mast replacement...

I've been able to successfully take apart the antenna case, but I am having trouble removing the old mast. The ribbon cable was broken and so was the mast, so it was time to attempt the repair.

When I pull on the mast it stops near the top as I pull on it, but will not pull out. I don't want to force it or bend it. Is there a secret to removing this so I can press in a new mast.

Any help would be appreciated.

There should be a retainer nut at the bottom of the mast. This holds the mast in the "tube".

If this is like my '90, the "black" piece surrounding what's left of your mast right at the base is actually a nut. If you look carefully, there are two flat spots on either side of the nut. You should be able to grab it with needle-nose pliers and spin it off. Once the nut is free, the mast will pull off from the assembly.

Thank-you Joel and ghlkal... It took two seconds once I saw the threaded piece on the bottom. Very frustrating that there are no instructions available on this repair.

The design of the antenna was changed quite a bit in 1988, so there are only a few similarities.
