1986 parking brake cable location.
I don't know why it is but every Corvette I've purchased used has had the parking brakes disabled. My 1986 vert is no exception. Not only was all the hardware removed but the cables as well! Previous owner said they rubbed and instead of tracking down the problem he simply went to all the hard work to remove all the hardware and all three cables.
Now the problem. I have all the "stuff" but are encountering difficulty in positioning the left and right cables. They do seem awfully long but they did come off the car.
I can not locate an exploded view or diagram as to their location. Does anyone have a couple of good photos that might assist me?

Hi Cliff;
I saw this diagram and it has quite a bit of detail. However, it does not show the actual routing of the cables. The specifications show the right side as 38" long. This leaves about 24" of extra cable which is where the problem lies.
What is the cable position on the car?

So, both cables join near the center of the chassis. I need to move the left side further to the left to shorten the right side. Not sure where the right cable actually attaches to the frame though. The little "spring" clips is where my troubles begin. Were not sure where that is supposed to attach.

This is the only picture I have that shows the parking brake cable (at the top) -- this is just in front of the rear wheel on the driver's side:
I do remember that there was some kind of spring bracket/holder/clip attached to the C beam because I had to remove it to get the C beam out.

Still working on the parking brake cable issue 1986 C4
Still working on the parking brake issue. We think that we have the correct location for the parking brake cables, but a new issue has cropped up. The cables appear to be too long!
When we attempt to connect the parking brake cables to the parking brake "hook", each cable end is way too long. About 2" too long. All the hardware and cables came from Ecklers and they say these are all the correct items.
Is the parking brake anchor point installed correctly?
Anyone have any thoughts on where to go from here?

Do you have these anchor brackets attached correctly at each rear wheel? The cables would push through and latch to these.

I can't do much with your image - sorry.
***** Lay your cables out and measure them so that someone can help you. If someone has your dimensions maybe they can get you sorted out. I'd start at the wheel and work to the center of the car. Did the cables have a manufacturer tag on them or was it just an Eckler's "plain box"?

The anchor brackets were installed two different ways. One as you see here and the other upside down. I figured that they needed to be like the one pictured. The cables were from Ecklers and they verified the part number. I have no issue with the quality but when inserted through the anchor brackets they appear to be about 2" too long. The right side cable measures 38" in length un-compressed.
