A C4 being advertise as 1988 convertible, I called the seller and tells me it is a 6 spd trans. I thought the first year for 6 spd is 1989. Is he mistaken about the year of his car or the 6 spd came early.

While quite a few pre 89 4+3's have been converted, unless he specifically says so, its probably a 4+3. Despite some of its proponents, it is VERY hard to sell one, and a lot easier to sell a 6spd. Maybe he's figured that out.

You first ask the seller to supply you with the VIN and if the 10th digit is a J it's an '88 and likely a 4+3 or it's been changed. If it's a K it's an '89 and a 6spd by build. Are there snapshots of the interior?

You've been around long enough - you ask that he email you a snapshot of the SPID label on the console door, confirm the build and options THEN decide if it deserves a more discerning look.

Default 6 speed

It's very possible it's a 6 speed, and might not be a ZF6. Could be a Richmond or Tremec.
My 85 is a 5 speed, around 2008 the PO had a Tremec put in replacing the 4+3, so anything is possible.

Thank you! I'll ask him to send me a photo of it.
