Top mistakes people make with their cars

I do disagree on the 3K oil changes. I've always maintained a 3K schedule for oil and filter changes on all my vehicles. I feel it's the lifeblood of the engine and the cleaner it is the longer it will go without problems. My last truck had 215K on the engine and the valve covers hadn't even been off when I sold it.

Oil change periods depend on use or driving style. For example I have a canton non-bypass cartridge style oil filter for my other car and the directions say too replace the filter in like 10,000 miles, or after 500miles of racing. Also if you spray nitrous your forcing more past your rings and should change your oil more often. For my truck I'll change it anywhere from 3-7k with a quality oil, just depends on how biz I am. For my cars I don't even keep track of the miles since I drag race them often and change the oil often. The cars also have non-bypass adapters(warm up is even more important) it filters 100% of the oil and a clogged filter would be very bad. Still I use just regular brand name oil and a quality filter in my cars. I'd rather have clean oil and inspect the filter often than get a few more miles with expensive oil. I've always thought if you rev it high, your getting extra wear/heat and shortening the oil life.
edit: Another interesting point I read awhile back was that lower temps cause more blow-by and since many C4 owners lower the temps for more performance.

Don't get so close to anyone in front of you that you can't see there rear tires on the ground.

I'd say the number 1 mistake people make (that I see here) is throwing parts at the car w/o proper diagnosis
