What should i look for when buying a high mile corvette
Hey guys first posting, but i have had my Volvo S60 for a little while and i am looking at getting this C4, i would be doing a straight trade. I just wanna know anything i should be on the look out for when looking. Thank you. The Corvette has a few minor issues, but the only thing major is that it needs the ignition switch fixed. It has 190k miles

make sure theres no check engine code. Then id look at the wear items like the brakes, stearing components, If a stick id make sure the clutch felt right and the tranny didnt have any syncros that were grinding when shifting. If an auto make sure its not slipping and check to see if the fluid smelled burnt. You are going to have to check all these things and see what its going to cost you to get it up to snuff. Ive fell into what i though were deals on something because of milage and sank so much money into that id have been better off spending a bit more at the start for a low milage unit. Also keep in mind that if you have to sink a couple grand into it to get it right your probably not going to recoup that money if you sell or trade it. It still will be a high milage unit and still will scare off most buyers.

You can either spend a little more money now for a lower mile car, or chances are you will be spending alot more in the near future for major repairs.I don't care what car you buy , but 190,000 is a whole lot of miles.........WW

There are no more problems with the earlier models then there were with the later models. The problems are just different.... I would try to find something in the late 80s , early 90s, with lower miles or a LT1 with lower miles..It's more about getting a car that was taken care of , then what year the car is....If you want a LT1, there should be quite a few out there with lower miles that have been taken care of for decent prices....None of these cars are real expensive, except the rare models or the very low mile cars..Do a lot of shopping around......WW

There are lots of 94 - 96 cars for sale here. You should have no problem finding one with 100K or less miles on it. I am a little biased to the 95 myself
When you are dealing in 20 year old cars a well maintained high mileage car will often as not give you a lot less trouble than a low mileage car that has not been maintained.

I bought my 1988 with 190K miles. Huge mistake. The fact you're looking at a LT-1 is a plus. If you can get a record of service then the mileage concerns will be less. However hoping for the best will drain your wallet. The first thing to fail was my transmission the second was the motor. All the time and money I wasted is gone forever. Lessons learned ! Best of luck.

I don't know your price range, but I bought a 94 LT1 convertible, 6 speed convertible with 49,000 miles for $9200. I think it's an excellent value for what you get for the money.

If that engine has been properly maintained throughout the years you may have another 50K out if it. If there are no maintenance records llok for another Vette.
My 95 has 149,000 miles, but it has been over-properly maintained with oil changes, ATF differential fluid changes every 25K miles, and the brake fluid every 18-24 months. I expect to get another 50-75K out of it, but I think I will be bored, and do some LT1/4L60E extraction to go for new project.
