Default **** Removal?

Hey it's me again. As you can tell I'm a new guy who owns a Corvette, my first one.
Anyway how do you remove the shifter **** for an auto trans? I've looked but I can't tell how it removes with breaking something?
I've got a 92 Corvette Coup and I want to restore it.

Thanks

Pry or pop the cap off with a small flat screw driver. Then there's a snap ring that holds it on.

Is it the same for a 1984?

Edited due to comprehension problems with the original post. It was only 12:08 AM, which is pretty early for me.

The original is still embarrassing me in the quotes below....

You're a very handy guy to have on this forum Cliff. Unfortunately it was the shifter **** in question this time.

Go buy yourself snap-ring pliers, and get one with a few different size heads to try on it. You kind of need something longer and pointy like needlenose pliers to get it off.

I have a pair somewhere too believe it or not that my dad gave me. I knew they would come in handy, the shifter **** on my 84 is tore up from someone (plus me) pulling the plastic bezel up and down over it.
