What is this worth? 1996 LT4 car
I found a 1996 LT4 car with all options except for both roofs (just has glass roof). 30000 miles. Never rain or snow. 2nd owner car. Red on black. No paintwork. Car really needs nothing.
I have no idea the value and I think the asking may be a little high. What would you pay for this car?

Mint condition, zero issues, its probably worth (valued... not the same as worth) the mid to upper teens. ANY problems, down sharply. There is some debate as to the long term investment value of the car, and then only if it stays in the present condition. Remember, exquisite care can drastically reduce the problems with age, it won't eliminate them.

Look at it this way, you probably do have some idea of what the car is going to cost you to buy, having looked at the various sales sites and having seen what owners are asking.
This owner is selling privately, usually means a more realistic price as compared to a dealership (overhead). However, the private party is more than likely to be asking at what he considers to be max value. I know if I owned a 30K LT4, I would be!
And the axiom applies, that it is always easier to go down in the asking price than trying to raise it.
In the end, you have to do your homework, for the kind of money being discussed, you should go look at it, or at the very least ask for some help from someone in that area, and remember it is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
Problems?, hell yes, but when looking at a vehicle approximating 20 to 30 years old, it shouldn't be a question of what might be wrong, rather ask from other owners what to expect to fail. There is a lot of history on this site about that subject!
Good luck, and I can tell you this, owning/driving an LT4 will put many smiles on your face. For a real kicker you can always go "383 Stroker" as is my own.
Good Luck
ps: seriously, if it has a clean car fax as in no accidents and it is not a northern car, go for it!

Is it a F45, FE1, or Z51? I wouldn't buy a F45...long story

Thanks for the replies. They are asking $13000 so it's not terrible.
As for no rain/snow, not everyone lies. My C6 has never seen either in 7+ years. My C4 never saw either from the day it rolled off the showroom floor until I sold it. I'd expect a car with 30000 miles in 18 years was used sparingly and carefully.

One of our local Chevy dealers had 4 2013's sitting outside on his lot all Winter. And we had a lot of snow and ice. I wonder if the buyers of those cars will declare them as to never being in the rain or snow.

I would bring a mechanic to examine the car. I should have done that with my LT-4. but $13k is great for 30k miles. Good luck with your search.

I know my two Corvettes were bought new, ordered by me and delivered to the showroom. i removed the car from the showroom on nice days to be driven home, garaged and never driven in inclement weather of any kind. They have never been stored outside or exposed to rain or snow.
The present owner of the car in question bought the car in 1998 with less than 1500 miles on it. According to her, it was in the showroom. It has been garaged since and never outside in any form of precipitation. I am a former detail shop owner. There is no sign whatsoever of water marks, acid rain, bird crap stains, etc. I expect to see that stuff on even well cared for cars that spend time housed outside in the elements. From my observation, I believe the present owner.

$13k sounds reasonable for based on its condition since most people expect to be offered less, although low mileage vettes are not always a good thing. Seals tend to dry out with limited driving, but probably okay at 30k Ask for a RPO codes, located in the compartment behind the passenger seat. This will give us the exact detail about the car.

$13K would be a great price if it's in that good condition. Again, do a PPI for sure!
For reference, I purchased a '94 LT1 with 40K miles about 7 months ago and the seller wanted $13,500. I negotiated down a decent amount, but that's what he wanted. I looked at a few LT4s with similar mileage to the one you're looking at and many sold for more.

It's the under-body that takes the beating in snow/rain and that's still made of steel which will eventually rust. So whenever I see someone say it's never been in rain/snow...especially snow (think rock salt), my thinking is the under body should be in good shape.
