I have a 85, I guy wants to sell me his targa top from a 96...does anyone know if it will fit or what mods are required to make it fit???

Won't fit.

But I believe you may can get the windshield brackets from an 89-96 Vette to get it to work.

Not sure if the 89-96 windshield brackets will bolt up to an 85. But do know they used to sell the parts to retrofit a later top onto an earlier car.

You will need the 89-96 header brackets, the trims and the 89-96 header moulding. see parts below only need to find the left header moulding trim.

You will need to remove the sunvisors, mirror and 84-85 header molding trim. Bolt the brackets on but only finger tight, then fit the roof and tighten the rear bolts. Now align the brackets and secure the front of the roof with the roof tool, then get someone to press down on the roof (preferably a slim woman with miniskirt) to sit on the front part of the targa to depress the weatherstrips and tighten the 4 header bracket bolts. Remove and refit the targa roof only when all is good attach the 89-96 header moulding, mirror and sunvisors etc.
