Default Tranny trouble

After having a leaking auto trans gasket and fluid replaced in my 89 rag top I have a shuddering along with severe slippage and a growling noise between 1st and 2nd. The previous owner definitely abused the old girl so even with only 75K mi I'm thinking "rebuild time". I am wondering how many greenbacks I can expect to lay out. I am not set up to take the transmission out myself so am talking a complete job. If anyone has had it done recently I would appreciate knowing what to expense to expect.

Had my 700r4 rebuilt a few months back. Heavy duty parts, shift kit and a hughes 3000 stall converter (which was $600 alone) cost me a total of $1600. But I pulled my tranny and reinstalled it. I would say it might be another $400-600.

I know this is not answering your question but recheck your fluid hot while running if you have not already

OK. Thanks now I have to decide if the car is worth the investment.
