Default passenger door light

For some reason interior lighting will not go on when I open passenger door. When I open the driver side door the passenger door as well as all courtesy lighting comes on.
The light on passenger door itself will light when pushed in.
Any Ideas?

Have a look at the plunger switch in door jam, may be stuck in.

Default passenger light

thanks for quick reply... I've tried that a few times. seems like plunger is working. But then it is 25 years old. Will give a closer look into it and wiring.
Thanks

Put key in ignition and turn to on. With the door open, you should make the door ajar light go on and off by pushing in the plunger. If not the switch or wiring is bad.

My car does not work that way.

Opening the door causes the interior lights to come on. If I push in on the switch plunger (or close the door) the timer kicks in and the lights finally go out after about 60 seconds.

If I turn on the ignition the interior lights go out immediately (that is also controlled by the courtesy light delay timer).

An 89 didn't come with a door ajar light? Huh, I didn't know that.
