Raffling off a C4 Vette
Since prices for our beloved C4s has tanked, has anyone thought of, or tried auctioning off their car? Wonder how many people would buy $25 raffle to win a clean low mileage vette, especially if you limited it to 1000 tickets and spent some of the profits to give the 9 others nice price prizes. Is it legal to action off a personal car for profit?

I think something like that would be met with a lot of skepticism in this world we live in. You would probably have to get some charity/non profit organization involved to make it fly. They would have to benefit from it also. Then you get involved with taxes and donations and any other legal red tape you can possibly think of. Just keep the car and enjoy it. If it's time to move on you may have to settle for what the market will bare.

Sounds like a great idea.. But they get nasty about raffles here.. I'd check the law in your area first.
A local Honda Goldwing group would raffle off one bike, once a year and they screamed bloody murder about it.
I thought it was silly, but apparently that is the law..

I live in Pennsylvania and only charities can do raffles. Charities can also do auctions without a licensed auctioneer. You can auction your car if you are the owner but you must comply with the auction laws. Problem then is only an auctioneer or an attorney will know what they are. I know this because I am an auctioneer. That specific knowledge will cost you...

I think one of the toughest parts of the auction would be convincing people that it is legitimate. As far as a charity goes, I think you could say a "portion" of the proceeds goes to charity, but I'm no expert in that realm. If it could be done legally and sell enough tickets, I think you could get a lot more for your car than selling outright.
