Default Anyone tint the clear targa top?

Has anyone applied window tint to their clear targa top? I know there are the pre-cut sun blockers you can purchase but window tint may be easier and cheaper for me to do.

I guess it will work but since its technically not glass I though I would ask first.

Thanks!

I have both tops and prefer the look of my car with the dark, see through, top against the silver-colored body. However, here in Florida, it doesn't take long for that plastic to heat up and become a little radiator.

Like you, I've been considering an internal sun blocker. However, I recently had my windows tinted with a new "nanotechnology" film that blocks 99% of UV, 45% of heat and still allows 85% of light transmission (for these old eyes - and, darker shades are available). It's really remarkable how, in direct sunlight, the inside of the targa top is like a little radiator while the inside of the rear glass is now relatively cool.

This coming week I will see if my window tinter will do the inside of my top and for how much. I'll post his answer.

Went thru this with my 92..Fl heat bakes interior

acrylic wont take tint...
inexpensive liner insert ok but not great...
found similar color, scratched solid targa roof for $300 at junk yard....works fine, and looks good at 10 ft ot more...will repaint when do entire car..
Use clear in fall, winter, early spring..... insert liner in late spring as needed...solid in summer

I've used the static cling dot matrix stuff that Ecklers or MidAmerica hopefully still sells. It works great to filter the sun and hasn't fallen off in the decades it has been on.

They do, and it works great.

There are two more options; buy a headliner for that type of targa or paint it.

I have 2 factory see through tops. Both look black from the outside. One is blue the other smoked ? I use one during the summer months because its sun damaged. I also have a headliner in it with suction cups to block the sun. Cost $50 ? Can't remember !

Is what I used in Louisiana, worked just fine for me.

Nothing worked as good as limo tint all around though.

I have a headliner insert, works great.
See below the headliner, with the reflective stuff on the other side.
You cannot see it from the outside, looks like a black fibreglass roof.

It has tabs that slide into the gap between the frame and tinted roof, I have had it for several years and there is no difference between having a fibreglass roof or the glass type now. No need to wear a hat in summer or get a hot head.

I just remove the headliner insert for Winter, best of both worlds.
I am very happy with it. (some complain it may sag down a little in the middle but i have not come across this it sits in tight)

Looks like the corvettecentral one below.

Just had my 95 tinted all around with brow on windshield. Tint guy said he has tried the tops but the 3 he did all failed. I am ordering a headliner for my smoke top. I have the hard top also but do not like it. May consider painting hard top to look like my smoke top !!!!

Looks nice...I have same insert in black..

did you apply tint material to the insert backing?...if so, what adhesive did you use?...does it stay stuck even with the heat?

As expected (from other posters, above), his response was I'd be better off going to a vinyl sign maker and getting the plastic top "wrapped" with black vinyl.
