Go with Bosch. I promise you will not be disappointed. People will praise the optima red top, I listed to them, bought two for my C4s, and I'm regretting it. Bought a Bosch for my Z06, and DD, and all is great with them. Damn Germans rule when it comes to any type of technology.

Thanks Guys, will run the Advance Auto Gold series. The Delco battery I removed was MFG 12/1995. No friggin way but there it is on the battery. May Keep it, do not know why thou.....

Very interesting. Did not know there was a manufacture date on a AC Delco battery. Will have to look. Where is it marked to help these ol retired eyes...

Before getting swamped by all the sales hype heaped onto car batteries, It might interest some to know that Most of the car battery labels sold in the US are made by 3 primary manufactures. Furthermore, some labels are manufactured by two or more of these manufactures.

I just go with the Wal-Mart brand just because no matter where you go, there's a Wal-Mart there to take care of a warranty problem.

I believe your reference to Delphi Automotive as a "manufacturer" is "flawed". The "link" you reference I believe verifies that if you research the information the author mentions. Your reference link is the work of the "individual" and displays I believe multiple errors.

There are I believe three primary manufacturers of most of the current product that is done in the US: Johnson Controls, East Penn Manufacturing and Exide

If you're interested in the manufacturer of the battery you're anticipating the purchase I'd suggest some "independent research". It is as we all know the "Internet". The source for the "brand" may actually change depending on your location also.

It would of course depend on the actual manufacture date BUT let's assume it's a recent build it should be on the label on top of the battery. It will be something starting with a P or an S with a numerical sequence following it. The font will be much smaller and not match the balance of the label. A sample would be S119 (Nov 09).

Now if it's a very old battery the date code will be on the case and uses a different sequencing, the first would be the year, followed by a letter code for the month (A - M but skipping I), the balance of the information would be production plant information. 2CXXX would indicate '02, March. This information would be a permanent stamp.

The later product could likely have similar information but that is only related to the case and not the "final build" of the actual battery.

I believe that Walmart now won't warranty a battery unless the actual receipt is supplied. Most others if you have the receipt use that date or if you don't they will generally provide the warranty service using the "date code" on the product. Are they required to? I don't believe so. YMMV

To be serious, if you are looking for the "best" battery it cannot be determined by anecdotal experience. The variables in terms of user behavior, storage, events such as an accidental drain (lights left on), climate, etc... Make that impossible.

The battery manufacturing companies will typically build a battery to meet a wholesale buyer's specs or offer different build/quality levels. Do independent research? I absolutely agree - NO argument there. But, NOT to loose focus on the bigger point: let us not go down the same tired old battery thread track made up almost entirely of personal anecdotes and marketing hype when the truth is so many brands are made by so few manufactures, and many brands share manufactures, and often a given label may well be produced by more than one manufacture.

(Note: That's NOT to say they're all alike. Battery specs are dictated for certain brands. But, many are pretty generic as well.)

So, the point of my original post and sharing some information clipped from only but one source was not so much to create a "Bible", but rather to inject some additional "beef" into an otherwise tired thread or at least (as you point out) provide some fresh info and a starting place where one might DO independent research on brand "X".

And, you make a valid point re the accuracy of information on the internet. We should all tiptoe with caution. Sometimes, make that most times, one has to go through some amount of ore to find the gold. But, before impugning the entire internet, my favorite reply to that comes from a wise philosopher that once found himself surrounded with a plethora of varying opinions and contradictions, "Truth is where you find it!" (And, that includes your post which, by the way, also appears on the "internet", right? Just sayin!)
