Nitto NT555 Price
Still have yet to confirm the date on what I believe to be my 1996 Michelins. (From another thread)
Price quote today for Nitto 555's for the rear. Two 285's for $405 out the door. Pretty good price, or can be better?
Honestly thinking about dropping down to 275's out the rear and eventually upping to 275's in the front when the one-year-old Kumho 255's wear out. This way I can rotate them and have all four the same size.

The $405 seems maybe a bit high BUT it depends on what your getting when you say "out the door"! If out the door includes the tire disposal, mount, "road-force" balance then maybe it's competitive. The "road-force" I believe is something that a person needs to anticipate as a "required" to achieve a satisfaction guaranteed install. The "road-force" needs to be done by a qualified technician.
Before paying for the "road-force" I'd ask what their "accepted #'s" are. I would think if you were paying for the "road-force" numbers of less than 10 or surely very low teens preferred. What does Nitto say is acceptable? Worth asking? Yes - before hand.
BTW - I thought the tire age was a done deal in your other thread. You've still issues with that?

Discount tire direct.com
This site shows $360 for 2 rears which incl road hazard, free shipping.
No install or balance or stems, etc. so you can go from base price. $405 sounds ok but as was stated earlier reply, what is included?
My 94, 23000 miles has the origonal (date code 94) Goodyear tires that are gone as soon as we get thru this ice storm in FL!
You can replace all 4 for about $625 in stock sizes plus extras which is what I'm going to do

I looked at Discounttiredirect.com too. Good prices.
I see the full set of 255 fronts 285 rears for $553 shipped if you remove the charges for the tire certificates and valve stems.

As crazy as this sounds I got mine at Walmart for a great price, but I only brought the rims in as I didn't want anyone from Walmart in my Vette. They had no problem installing the tires and using inside tire weights.

Road force balance (WVZR1)
The shop I will use has reg balance or Road force for $8 per tire extra. Is it worth it for the average driver? (I gather you have a ZR1)
Should 4 wheel alignment be done at install time or a little later?
What does road force balance entail/do? Sorry for the questions but I never heard of it until recently.

If you have reasons to question your alignment because of tire wear issues you have now then the alignment needs done now. What about wear on the suspension components? Lots to consider. Shop reputation?
Costco has a very good tire program, they have a "tire age" that they won't mount which is very good. I don't know what it is now for "off the shelf" tires but they do have standards. Most Costco facilities offer drive up inflation correction, use their nitrogen program and it gets you nitrogen correction.

Balancing/alignment
[QUOTE=WVZR-1;1586050582]The 8$ per would be money well spent BUT you want to get them to explain just what the 8$ buys. A "road-force" for optimal performance might entail maybe 2 - 3 mount/dismounts per tire to rotate the tire on the wheel.
I have OE/GM rims (1st owner had them chrome plated) and stock tire sizes. Old tires on there now have worn evenly except for flat spots in rears from old age. Good description of road force balance. Does nitrogen do anything good? Thanks

FWIW...
I got nitto 555s on my '94 from Discount Tire last April.
285/40 rear....255/45 front.......the rears were $368.00, fronts......$290.00
The total price for everything...install, balancing, tax, etc. was $895.34
I was very pleased with their work and professional attitude. I would definitely go there
again.

To do the 275's up front would require likely the buy of two 9 1/2" wheels for them. The 8 1/2" fronts would be a push for the 275's I'd think.
Once it comes time, I would look for some 9 1/2s up front.

On the invoice -
Tires 162.95
Balance and Valve Package 19.99
Tire Install 0.00
Valve Stem 0.00
Wheel Balance Labor 0.00
Free Life of Tread Rotation and Rebalance 0.00
Tire Disposal Fee 4.00
FL State Fee 1.00

Okay. Solid advice.

Another poster wanted me to check the DOT stamp on the inside of the tire. I just haven't had the chance to climb under the car to confirm it.

I ordered a set of Grand Sport rims from 1st Rate Corvette. 9 1/2" up front and 11" rear. Just put a set of Nitto 555's on. 275/40 up front and 315/35 in the rear. Payed $630.00 from Discount Tire. Had them installed today...
What an improvement. Highly recommend both rims and tires!

That's a great price from discount tire. I shopped Amazon and Tirebuyer, went with tirebuyer and got the same 275/40 315/35 for $630 shipped to door. Another $100 to mount and balance.
