Default 2014 Black Hills Corvette Rally...any takers?

Got the official dates for 2014... July 17,18 and 19th Anybody thinking about making the trip this year? I did it for the first time last year and had a blast..so many things to see and do plus some of the national parks have quite the tight hairpin turns I'm sending off my hotel reservations tomorrow. I see the website hasn't been updated as of today but I'm sure it should be soon. Everything from having breakfast with the Presidents (Mt Rushmore) to drag racing and rally events at a college campus, cruising through towns on a poker run etc etc. I had just taken a day to drive aimlessly around and saw a lot of great sights. Just wondering if any of the C4 faithful are going to make the trip this year...if you haven't done it yet and are thinking about it I can promise you, you won't be bored. And it didn't matter a hill of beans what generation you drive, if it says Corvette on it that's all that matters One word of advice though..DO make sure both your tires and brakes are up to snuff

I was planning a trip that way to mark the Dakota's off on my map of states that I haven't been to yet, also right about that time. I never even heard about this. I think that I am going to look into it, the timing is right.

I do sturgis if not for that would love to give it a go. But you are right some of the best riding in the country. The sights are unreal and anyone who has a chance should really give it a go you will not be disapointed

We love the Black Hills and since I got the vert in December I have been thinking about a run up there this summer in it. The highway turns and views up there will be incredible in the vert. This sounds like a lot of fun, I will put this in my calendar and see how it looks as we get closer. I will go ahead and make hotel res. now so we got a place to stay. Will post back as we get closer.

Oh man, it looks like a ton of fun--you've definitely gotten my attention! We've finally got the car and the time, and it just so happens our calendars are wide open Any idea as to when registration opens? I'm guessing open/online registration fills up pretty quick. I've hit the website and like you said, no new (2014) info yet, but I' staying tuned.

Also, having been there, do you have any personal recommendations for accommodations?

I think my wife and I might go this year. We have never been before. I need to get new tires and get a few other things done to be sure the Vette is roadworthy. Also, we will be buying a house in the summer so I have to make sure we're not moving about then.

We like to stay in Deadwood so we can walk up and down the main street with all the casinos. I made a reservation at HI Express connected to a Casino there because I had points to use, but almost all of the Casinos have hotels connected in Deadwood. It looks like Spearfish is where most of the events are centered for the Classic and has various options. Rapid City will have the most options and offer the lowest cost vs. Spearfish, Deadwood, Lead, etc.

Last year I stayed at the Spearfish Holiday Inn and Convention Center, that's the "host hotel" for the event, but there are any number of places to stay in and around Spearfish as has been said. If you make the reservations now I think the rates are 140/night plus tax. It is kind of convenient to be right there as most of the events (tours, poker runs and the like) start there. On Saturday night they have the Vette Street USA show, where all the corvettes from the rally as well as many locals park on main street in Spearfish. They cordon off the whole main street and park two rows down the middle with cars also parked in the regular parking spots along the sidewalk. Make sure you have comfortable shoes as you'll probably be doing a lot of walking just looking at the various vettes on display. They had great food/beverage vendors there as well.
I should mention that should you choose to, the "rally" part of it start in Sioux Falls at Billion Chevrolet on Thursday morning. If I remember correctly there's a pre-registration there where you pick up your packet. The caravan starts around 8 am so I got a room in Sioux Falls the night before, and they also have an informal car show downtown, again closing off a few streets for people to park. It's at that event I saw a LOT of very nice local rides...street rods, classics, muscle cars etc. When the caravan leaves on Thursday they gave a police escort out to I-90 and then we took off. Speeding is not advised of course and about two hours or so into it we stop at Al's Oasis for a great brunch buffet, then take off again for Spearfish, stopping along the way to see the sights. If you search my past posts I posted a lot of pics from last years trip, might give you an idea of what to expect.

As a life-long resident of South Dakota, I am often asked by my out-of-state science teacher friends for info on how to vacation in our state. I have attached a Word document of the information I send to them for your use. Hope you enjoy our state next summer at the 43rd Annual Black Hills Corvette Classic as our state is not quite so hospitable this time of year. The dates in the initial posting are correct for the Black Hills portion of the Classic, but it actually starts July 15-16 in Sioux Falls, SD where many Corvette participants meet and participate in Hot Summer Nights the first day (along with other activities) and after a morning driver's meeting form a caravan to drive from there to the Hills via Interstate 90 with a breakfast stop at Al's Oasis along the Missouri River near Chamberlain.

The schedule for 2014 can be found at the following link.
https://www.blackhillscorvetteclassic.com/schedule/

Come and enjoy our state, as there is lots to do in the Black Hills and if you really like it you can come back in August for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally for an even wilder experience.

Couldn't agree more. Just the ride through Spearfish canyon alone is worth the trip.

Then you will definitely want to take Quincy St. (west off of Mt. Rushmore Avenue also called Highway 16) as it turns and twists into Skyline Drive!

If you plan on taking in both events, the Travel channel on cable TV is showing a new series of shows (I think about ten of them.) called Sturgis Raw. That will give you some idea of what you are getting yourself into.

I agree as I have made that drive dozens of times. Too bad they won't let you hike down and into the cave behind Roughlock Falls like we used to do when I was a kid.

This sounds like an absolute blast. The misses and I are strongly considering joining the event ourselves as new C4 owners. Most of the cost is obviously getting there and the lodging. Does anyone know what the registration fee has been in past years?

One would think there would be a massive discount for C4 owners since we are all really cool people.

Last year. (2013) it was $120 for one and $140 for two.

Talked to my wife and to my surprise she thought this would be great fun.

She also told me she has always wanted to visit this area of the country. So we made our hotel reservations last night for both Souix Falls and Spearfish! Count us in for this summer vacation.

Can't wait for July to get here.
