Where to buy motorless vette?
Hey guys, as many of read, I'm without a car or a means to get another one now that insurance has gotten me no where. Even if I sold all the parts, there would be such a great loss that its hard to go that route. So i'm looking into where to buy either a great condition c4 tpi car without a motor/tranny for around 2,000 or a vette that has a blown motor etc. Luckily since i was doing a cam swap, a good portion of the parts where out of the car. If I can find such a vette, I can swap everything over. If anyone has an idea where I should look around the Florida area, please tell me!!. Right now i'm trying to raise up enough funds to do that atleast.

You'd have to go get it, but...

I wouldn't buy that car it has "raddles"?
Could be serious, I think someone died from "raddles" once?
LA schools?
Is that a word?

Nah, If he gives up its an opition (if the heads cracked it'd be perfect) but i'm going to be checking some auto traders today. Theres always a million f-bodies for cheap, but I had wanted to stay with a y-body, it was nice to go the track, and out of the 2-300 racers, be one of maybe 4 or 5 c4 vettes running, as opposed to 60 or more f-bodies. Thanks guys for checking though, I'm open to all opitions at this point

Why not just repair your existing vette? It can be done. I'm sure you will be able to locate all the needed parts. First get the factory manual for that car so you'll have a good wiring schematic. You can always get help here on the forum. Just a thought. What ever you do GOOD LUCK.... :yesnod:

there's an 85 in Naugatuck CT. Paint is beat, 118K miles, interior needs work...if anything it might be a good project "shell". Want me to get the phone #?

The cheapest I have seen any C4 is an 84 for $3500 in rough shape but considered "running"
It would be cheaper to fix yours.
It looked like only the front cap was burned. You can yank it, and make it a true drag car that you wanted. forget the fancy stuff, just put an aluminum firewall, fender rails and analog gauges, go with a blower or Carb and your done. Probably be faster and easier to work on once you are done.

LOL man...FIRST THING you should be lookin for is FIRE COVERAGE insurance before you go out building another "mini-nuke". :D Also check in the paper often. I almost always see someone..........atleast 1 person selling an old 85 or 86 vette body or even an old beat out vette with no motor in it for aroun 3 or 4 Gs........I know it's a little high for your range...but check out the local paper man. Seriously. I fnot that, try an auto junkyard or somethin..........possibly via the web.

OK-HOLD IT RIGHT THERE! The photos of your car DO look bad, but there is an AWFUL lot left...
If it were me, I'd strip out everything that's in the burned area. THEN with a stiff brush/scraper/paint, I begin the reassembly. You'd be amazed at how much can be re-used after a THOROUGH cleaning! Sure, some pieces are too far gone, but it's not nearly as bad as it looks. It'll be a LOT easier AND cheaper than fooling around with an unknown shell, which, by the way, will require replacement of the same parts you need to re-do your current car. DUH !! Think about that. :yesnod: :yesnod:

Re: Where to buy motorless vette? (FASGLAS)
I'd have to get a new wiring harness, torque converter was pretty cooked, kick down cable, accelerator cable, evaporator and housing, windshield, hood, tire well, hood release cable, power steering pump with hoses and resorvior, brake booster and master cylinder, alternator, and some other things. The cost adds up quickly, and for the price, i could just buy a 86 or 87 with half the mileage as mine. Though I'd hate to start all over, it would be the better way IMO.

He has some of the other parts for that car. Click on his other auctions and it isnt all that far from you.

I don't know what a certificate of destruction is, but it would be in your best interest to see if the end result would be able to be re-registered.
Again, sure, there ARE some big ticket replacement pieces needed, windshield, (hood-which you have ALL the accessories, lights, brackets hinges etc.) Are you not willing to check out the recyclers for these? The stuff like the master cylinder should be salvagable. Wires and cables can be had from junkyards, recyclers, aftermarket or GM, depending on how much effort YOU'RE willing to invest. Listen, I'm not trying to sound like a wiseguy, or trivialize the situation, BUT, to swap the remains of your car into another shell will involve FAR more work and money than the plan I posted earlier, AND you can start the process RIGHT NOW. The choice is yours...Do as you will.
PS: Buy a cheap throwaway car/truck (useful), for now. At least you'll be mobile. :yesnod:
