Where'd all the C4's go?
I remember them everywhere. Me and about 10 of my friends had em back then. Some had a few. I had an 84 for 2 months and liked it enough to step up to an 86 Pace car (in 88). Are they all in junkyards? I can't see them in collections. Thoughts?

I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and don't really see a lot of Corvettes period. I see very few C4s on the road. I do see a trashed out one now and then sitting in a driveway. I would bet the majority of them were used hard and cycled out of the system. I have a 90 vert in pristine condition and it brings a smile on everyone's face that sees it.

I bet there are a few hiding out in garages across America just waiting for a nice summer day. I see new ones every once in a while down here in Texas. A few weeks ago I saw a mint, triple black late C4. It was beautiful and sounded like it was cammed, it caught me off guard. I thought I had seen every C4 in town but this one was new, so their not as uncommon as Bigfoot sightings yet.

Here in Mobile you see C5's everywhere. Not too many C4's, and most of them are trashed. Makes me feel good about mine, in fact, mine is in better condition than a lot of the C5's around town. There are a couple of badass C4's, but that is few and far between. You would think given that you see fewer and fewer around that they would be worth more than they are.

There is about 15 C4's in my area and i'd say 10 out of the 15 or more are mostly trashed and usually are seen sitting doing nothing. The other 5 including mine are all in almost perfect condition.
I also live in a pretty big area. Most of them where I live are all 84's, there's my 89', and 1 93'. SO you could say that 84's are common in my area but not anything else.

I can answer that question. A month ago yesterday I bought my first C4, a polo green '93 6 speed.
I live in the Bay Area in Nor. Calif, home to almost 6 million people. My search for a C4 took over 2 months & I test drove 14 six speeds & spoke to at least an additional 20 owners. Of the 14 cars I drove (4 from original owners), only 2 cars total were located in the actual Bay Area. The rest were all in smaller towns such as Placerville, Chico, Lodi, Jackson, Monterey, Modesto, Rio Linda, Yuba City, Boulder Creek, etc. etc.
I can drive around all day in the Bay Area & not see a single C4. In fact though I've put almost 350 miles since buying my C4 a month ago, I've only had the chance to wave at 1 other C4 in the Bay Area.
On the other hand, when I was driving to all the above locations, I saw many C4s. 4 of them drove past me in just one day while driving up to Chico. Another 3 when I drove to Jackson.
Conclusion? I've lived in the SF Bay Area the past 30 years. I have no doubt that many C4 daily drivers have perished after decades of Bay Area traffic. Most surviving C4s (especially 6 speeds) have relocated out of the Bay Area to smaller towns, less congested, less expensive areas. I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Demographics of the SF Bay Area have also changed drastically since the C4 was introduced..........& that's a factor as well.
PS...........My brother lives in Scottsdale AZ. Lots of Vettes there............few C4s there, but still more than over here.

I think since the newest ones are 18 years old and the oldest ones are 30 years old that's the main reason why you don't see as many as you would expect. The local cars and coffee and Corvette shows around here are dominated by C5s and C6s.

Most of the people in my area drive rice, beemers or MBs. Some weekends I don't see any vettes at all. There are 3 or 4 other C4s in the area, but they don't get driven often.

I posted this in an old thread months ago, but there are quite a few C4s in the North Jersey area. There's three (including mine) within two blocks of my house! I see one on the road on average every other day.
If I had started this thread, it'd be the opposite title: I can't believe how many C4s are still running strong! And there's always quite a few at local C&Cs and Corvette shows.

There are plenty C4's here in Australia, we must be importing too many C4's from the United States
Australia is kind of like Los Angeles and Florida always vette weather never any snow (unless you looking for it up on the mountains in winter) Saw a C4 Vert today cruising with the top down..
around the 90's today in Melbourne nice ..
So no salt on the roads ever, the aluminum suspension stays nice and shiny underneath and no rust on them bolts.

There are A LOT of C4s hiding out in garages. They have been garage queens since new. You can read about it here from time to time a new nOOb would come out with anew thread asking their "typical" questions, and informing us about his new 25 years old car with only 20,000 miles.
I have a neighbor that has a white 92 in his garage, and I have never seen that old man driving that thing. I hope to know the day he dies for me to get a good deal on it.

Despite what the ad says, it's not perfect. Small tear in the seat, air cond is marginal at best, auto climate control has some issues, no paperwork, small paint issue on door & radio doesn't work. Runs pretty strong though. Prior to being out up for sale it sat in a garage for almost 6 years. So I'm thinking every hose & belt needs to be at least looked at. So even if the owner had accepted my $5k offer, I'm not sure how good of a deal it'd have been for me long term. Of course every scenario of this type may be different.
