Tempted by a ZR-1 $ 17000
I was tempted to buy a very nice 1991 Dark Red Metallic ZR-1 that a local car dealer has for sale. The car has about 32K miles on it, is in excellent condition and drove very nicely. The paint is virtually flawless. Some close inspection did reveal a couple of very small blemishes in the paint. They are asking $ 17,000 for the car.
After driving it and thinking about it for a while I decided I would keep my 1992 Black Rose coupe.
If anyone is interested they can contact me for further info on how to get hold of the dealer. Here are a couple photos I took of the car when I was looking at it. Here is the Craigslist listing. http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/ctd/4185665897.html

That is a deal that we will all kick ourselves over someday.

Wow...a ZR1 with 32K miles and they're asking 17K....which means probably high 15's cash would buy it. Heck even the weatherstripping looks to be in good shape. Did you happen to even ask what they'd give you for a trade-in value? As much as I love my 94 I'd be sorely tempted to bring that Z home, then again if that car was in front of me I'd buy it and worry about the money later

It'll never have the value it deserves.
And the price of engine parts is still a deal breaker.....

Some good deals out there now
Theres a black/grey 90 in the ZR1 sec with similar miles/price with some upgrades if I had the $ Id buy it. Those motors can be driven hard for 200k no problem which for me would be a lifetime.
one day they will be untouchable in price nows a good time if you got some extra$ laying around.

Its a good deal if its real... looks like the same one but a 4 speed auto, they didn't make an auto ZR1 did they?

I love my '86 but I know that this is the best time there ever will be to get the King Of The Hill. It is sorely tempting.

That is one heck of a deal for a ZR-1.

$$ if it needs parts, yes. But, the other side of the coin is the motors are built to race, and hand assembled. Parts are available, but as people soon learn, the things are bullet proof - cancelling out the concern for parts; long as one doesn't run one out of oil or coolant, of course.
To attempt to project LT5 failure rates, based on the SBC, is a common, but erroneous assumption. It is an entirely different animal!
At 32k miles, she's not even broken in. E.g, a track ZR-1 with 170k of hard miles came into Marc Haibeck's (ZR-1 Specialist) shop for repairs as needed. Compression and bearing wear, etc. were within spec.!
And consider the untapped potential: Example: After the porting and headers/Xpipe, etc, mine (typical for a "500" package) is making just over 500 hp at the clutch at 6800 rpm and over 440# of net crankshaft torque @ 5200 rpm and still making 392# at 6800 rpm. (And, people say the L98 at around 350# is a "torque monster"??)
I had a pristine 95/ZF LT1 vette, black/black. After ONE test ride in the stock 1990 ZR-1, I left the keys to the 95 with the dealer, paid $21k for the Z (38k miles) and never regretted it for a second. One of the best decisions I ever made!
