OK,
Here is where I am at;
Direct Lift 4 post lift $ 2,095.00 8k lb 68" clear lift. Includes (4) drip trays and (1) Jack tray
Delivery and Installation $ 450.00
Garage door track modification $ 486.00
Lift Master 8500 $ 300.00 not required but recommended

Also going to;
Install Reznor hanging natural gas garage heater w/ thermostat
Finish mudding seams & paint walls.
Paint floor with??

Have already ordered the lift to lock in current price, but I won't be doing this until the beginning of March.

Then I can work on the Corvette
Have to replace the stupid TO bearing ...again
Install the new water pump.
Work on oil leaks.
Replace front sway bar bushings etc. to get rid of noise.

VERY NICE!
That's what I hope to end up with!
A have the space of a 3 car garage, but one standard double garage door.

I also have a three car garage, with a single and double door set up. I'm using the single door bay for my '85 vette. Would this work for a four post lift?

Also, where are you located? The prices you've stated seem very reasonable to me with the delivery and installation. What company did you order your lift from?

I just had a backyard buddy installed 2 months ago. I raised two doors using the liftmaster wall mount. Got as close as i could to the ceiling. I have an 84 on the bottom and a 67 convertible on the top. Remember you will still need about 6 inches from the top to raise and then lower the lift. I'm 6' and can just stand under the car. All vettes are about 51" tall.total cost for the 2 garage doors was 2000.00. This included 2 openers, 2 lights, 4 remotes, new higher track, springs , hardware etc. And re-routing of electrical outlets. It was a little high, but everything is overpriced in my area. I got 4 estimates. They ranged from $3700 down to $2000!!. If i had the time i would have done it myself.

You would need to look at your ceiling height etc., but I went to the Direct Lift website and it has the installation manual with dimensions that you can use.
I'm in Upstate NY and when I sent direct lift an email to get the estimated shipping cost, they forwarded it to a distributor that emailed me the cost, but it was provided as shipping and installation. Based on the weight, I figured that the shipping would be at least $300.00, so having it delivered and installed for $450.00 sounded great!
For storage I looked at the dimensions and my garage is 128" high.
With the lift all the way up, the clearance under the runways is 68", so the Corvette will fit below it with 18"-20" clearance.
The runways are 4" thick and my 79 Z/28 is about 50" high -all this totals about 122.5", so I will still have about 5.5" clearance below the sheet rock.
For working under the cars I will have the 68" under the runway plus about 5' ground clearance for the Corvette, so it will be 73". I'm 6' so I can stand under the car when working on it and even if I have to bend over at all, it sure beats using my jack stands.

Luckily I have one double door.
So, my Garage door track modification is $ 486.00 and the Lift Master 8500 is $ 300.00 + remotes & light should be a little less than 1 single door.
As indicated, the garage door company said that my existing door opener will work using a longer bar because the door opener for a double door is located in the center and the garage bay on the side that will have the lift is 23'-6" deep

I own two 4 post lifts...one Backyard Buddy and a Gemini ...as well as a low level lift for doing wheel and brake work

Anyway I replaced my 18 foot garage door with two 9 foot roll up doors like they use on loading docks ... they roll up like a window shade so the door itself does not enter the inside of the garage at all...plus it has no rails at all....

BTW...My backyard buddy was well worth the extra money I spent for it ...BUT the Gemini is ok and never given me any trouble its just that I do not trust any lift that use posts with only 3 sides like the Gemini ..

Default garage lift

Try something called a jumpjack. Fits on the side of the garage spring mechanism and lifts it.

I was able to move up my time table, so the garage door modifications, the Lift master 8500 and the Reznor 60k BTU heater are being installed 2/6/14 and the Direct lift on Saturday 2/8/14.
I have my before pictures and I'll post the after pictures when it is done -my 84 Z/51 will be below my 79 Z/28 .

Why not a scissor lift?

Slides around, 120v, lifts Vette 3-4 feet off ground, no permanent mounting

As noted in my previous post in this thread I own two 4 post lifts (BYB and a Gemini) BUT I also own a scissor lift that only raises the car 3 or 4 foot...

Sorry but you can not even change the oil or do much IF any under the car work without some difficulty with the scissor lift the mechanism just gets in the way...I use mine strictly for doing brake and wheel work since all 4 wheels are off the ground..and I have known to put the car up on the life so I could wax the lower body OR clean the wheel without bending over..

Still well worth the money to me..and it takes up no room in the garage as it sits under the car...

I totally agree with your statements....I was just responding to the guy with the 8 foot ceilings(RossyHusker)....for someone like him or me, thats about the only option we have besides ramps and jackstands.

Oh.....one more thing I wanted to point out to you guys.......If you are looking for used lifts......one great source is "industrial auctions"....not fleabay....but the ones that sell fork trucks and factory equipment.

I bought my scissor lift for $200 from none other than GM. It was being used in the Fiskar plant....anyone remember Fiskar? $125K all-electric sports cars.

I think GM made a joint venture, and they produced only a couple hundred production vehicles. During that auction the guys at work with me purchased 6 tool boxes (Kennedy and Craftsman) and most had tools in it straight from the production line. The most expensive one went for $130 and included drawers full of tools and two electric impact drills.

Unfortunatly....every single tool in the cabinets I got was either 10 or 13mm......I don't know what that guy did on the line....but he only used 10mm or 13mm wrenches!!!

In the same auction they sold over 30 two and four post lifts....and about 6 scissor lifts.

so seek out the online industrial auction sites....if you are willing to take a risk!!!

Well, the Direct Lift rep called today and has two others that he is installing towards central NY this weekend and now wants to do mine this Saturday am However, the garage company can't move me up, so I won't really be able to put my car on it. The heater guy said he may be able to get over sooner than our appointment and with our temperatures not getting out of single digits much in the next 10 days -the heat is now pretty important too!

You guys will really hate my garage then...

Eagle Asymmetrical 10k # 2-post lift. A/C & heated, Moduline cabinets...floor was done in UCoatit epoxy...smelled like crap for a week. Had to spend 2 nights in the RV...but it's held up very well.
