LTB 1992 auto ISSUES???
Found a C4 for about 5k. It has about 79k on the clock. Besides all the jokes about the C4, what kind of issues are common and what should I look for before buying?
Thanx in advance.

Make sure the cooling fans work. With and without the A/C on... See if they have any maintenance records on the car too. Check to see if the Distributor has be replaced. Not a must but nice to have done. It sits behind the water pump if you didn't know. Also check the brakes, even with only 79K the pedal should feel firm not mushy or occilating pedal. And turn everything on and off.

But seriously though,
-Weatherstripping
-Optispark
-how it shifts, feel if there is a shift kit and if so, that could be a sign that the car was driven pretty hard
-make sure all of the power stuff works (power mirrors, seats, etc.), fixing electrical issues is a pain in the a$$
I'm sure more knowledgeable members will chime in later. Just check the car out like you would any other car. $5k isn't bad for a '92 with that low of mileage as long as the car is in decent shape.

First thing make sure the paint is acceptable to you, then likewise the interior. These are the most expensive areas. Overall condition and mechanical next. All of this should be tempered with your ability and wiliness to work on the car. Low mileage and or low price does not mean it is a bargain. A 21 year old car is probably going to need work, especially a $5000 one. That car excellent condition, $7k-$8.5k.

Check for current and historical codes stored by the computer.
Check the tires for uneven wearing
Pull both the engine oil dipstick and tranny and inspect the fluids.
Crawl under the car and check for oil leaks
Check the water pump/ weep hole for leakage.
Drive it at highway speeds and check for vibrations
Cycle the gear shift from park to low with the brake on and listen for U-joint issues.
Drive it for a distance at highway speed and watch for ses light.
Do a small brake stand to ensure the posi unit is good and both tires drive.
Check to see if the climate control panel functions properly and fans cycle.
Pull the oil fill on the pass valvecover and inspect the spring and rocker area for gunk build up.
Floor it to redline and make sure there is no opti fuel or ignition missing.
