Default Which C4 has the softest ride?

I understand the 84 C4 has a very harsh ride and that shortly after that model GM made ones with a softer ride and that first C4 suspension optional. If I wanted a C4 with the softest ride which year/suspension should I look for? I much prefer the looks of the early C4 so the softest amongst those would probably be what I'm looking for.

Any of the base suspension would be good but stay away from Z51, Z52. You could put some softer shocks in it.

I'd think the newest years with either base or adaptive suspensions.

Why would someone want a Corvette that rode like a Caddy? It's a performance car, not a fogey land barge. That stiff suspension is what allows it to be a sports car.

But I heard the base suspension on the 84 got a lot of complaints from owners because it was too harsh and so the next year or the year after they put in a softer base suspension - isn't that right?

What do I care if people think its supposed to be a performance car? I'm only interested in its appearance, since when is it a crime to want a car that looks like a C4 but has the softest possible ride? If I wanted a car that looked like a Cadillac that'd be fine, but I don't, I want one that looks like a C4.

I think you should drive some and decide what suits you best.

What I can tell you is that a friend of mine had an 84 and he said whatever you do, don't buy an 84 because of its buckboard ride.

That seems pretty well established, so when did the first of the softer suspensions get put in C4's?

What about amongst the early C4's with the concave rear tailight panel? Do any of those have a softer suspension than the first model or do I have to get a C4 with a convex rear tailight panel?

My 95 had FX3 adjustable suspension, but all of those were based on the FE1 springs (except the ZR-1 version of it). For a Corvette, it was compliant.

Look for the 85-90 with the FE1 suspension code and you will have the softest ride C4 they made. Hope that helps.

The 86 & 87 base coupes are the softest according to the charts. I didn't link any, but the suspension charts are easy enough to find.

The car I really miss is my 77 Lincoln Mark V. Most comfortable car I've ever been in, even the back seat.
