best gas and gas brand
Im looking for the best gas for mpg. Does the extra mpg of high octane ofset the cost? Also found a 110 octane racing fuel station, could I combine that with premium to boost the octane? Also is non ethanol 90 octane better than 93 premium mpg wise?

Here in Australia i love the BP ultimate fuel, 98 octane with cleaning properties, it gives better mileage than standard 91 octane (my vette hates standard fuel will ping its head of )''NOTE IS SUPERCHARGED'' not standard...
When i fitted a new 383 engine i was amazed how clean the 170,000 mile 350 was injectors had no carbon deposits, same with heads and pistons i only use BP Ultimate and have so for the last 8 years.
It is 13 cents per litre more than standard unleaded WHICH IS $1.64 PER LITRE ... multiply that by 3.78541 for per gallon price.

That helps. I just drove from CA to NC, Canada, and back to CA.
All states are following that 10% ethanol crap. I found few ethanol free gas stations, but they were phony. On this trip I found a real one in Montana. Two years ago, I filled up in the Santa Rosa, NM Conoco. The fuel's smell was strong, I didn't know it was ethanol free, and the next Day Betty Boop was giving 26-28 MPG. That was the best ethanol-free gas I've experienced.
The gas (Chevron) in Canada also gave me higher MPG.

We were just notified by the company that runs the main pipeline to Iowa that they will no longer ship 87 octane to Iowa, it'll now only ship 84 and 91 (like they have been). This means now we can only get 87 octane with no ethanol if they mix it here in Iowa (if at all)...and will drive up the price ethanol/no ethanol 91 octane 30-40 cents/gal...or worse make it disappear.
Most stations here do 87 straight, 89 ethanol, and 91 ethanol/no ethanol. I noticed Road Ranger is no longer selling 93 octane ethanol, it's now 91. Only Kum & Go and BP's are currently selling non-ethanol 91.
I usually get roughly 25 mpg highway on this gas on average, some tanks higher. Add ethanol into the mix, usually lose roughly 10%.

Here is the thing: premium gasoline by itself will not raise your milage. In fact, it has less heat energy per unit of volume. [Kerosene is actually higher]. Octane is knock resistance, not a measure of energy potential. Now, if you have the engine optimised for use with premium, ie higher compression and or more advance, you may see an improvement.
ETOH has less energy. I found consistant 5% less milage w 10 ETOH.It doesnt store well. Plus it causes problems in older vehicles and boats.

Hell I love, hunting and fishing. I just don't like the hypocrisy surrounding carbon positive (consuming massive crude oil resources to grow ethanol) to produce a fuel that produces less carbon emissions but causes the fuel system of cars to wear out faster. The whole situation is a marketing success for corn producing states, and a colossal failure for the internal combustion engine owner AND the environment.
As a result I buy Stabil Ethanol treatment or the Marine formula for everything I own that burns gasoline. I've had too many engine issues in the past that were directly a result of burning alcohol laced fuels in the name of being "green". How many premature purchases of lawn mowers, weed eaters, fuel injectors/pumps, scooters, etc does it take to eliminate the "green" aspect of ethanol. The answer is zero. The very production of the stuff is carbon positive from the get go. The consumer and the environment foot the bill for subsidizing grain production. Btw, I grew up a farm kid in the Midwest.
