As I started messing with my project, I quickly found the cap to be really tough to pop onto the base, due to the location at the extreme rear of the engine.
I found I cannot lock the rear hold-down because it's basically underneath the body..
I ended up bending the rotor metal contact in trying to position the cap ...was frustrating

Just curious if folks have as hard a time as I do with the dist cap.

What year? In my 85 my cap bolts on, but yeah the 2 back bolts are a pain. I found the best way to get at them was a socket screwdriver and an extension.

Just get the cap in place then pull back on the hood seal and use swivel socket to tighten down the screws.

my original, and replacement are the push down spring-loaded thingies & I use a straight slot to push down.
when the cap is installed, I don't see how I can even get to the rear latch: but maybe I'm just not patient enough

I dont think you have the original dist. Every C4 ive looked at had 4 screws holding the cap. 1/4" drive with a long extension makes it do able.

My 1990 OEM cap went right on like stated above with a socket extension and a rearward press on the weatherstripping to line it all up.

Okay so the verdict is the 84 C4 has a spring-loaded?
I think I'll look in my manual and see what it shows the right says haven't even looked yet

Could always mark the dist and intake manifold , loosen the retainer bolt slightly so you can rotate the dist to access the cap lock down clips,
then reposition and tighten down the dist when you are finished ?
