Have you ever checked your Spare Tire?
Just saw a post on spare tires. I have never even opened my spare. Car is a 1994. I wonder what the condition would be. I should check...

Several years ago I flew down to Houston, bought an 87 vert from the original owner and drove it back to Michigan.
Forgot to check the spare. Later that year I did so and found it only had about 5psi. Good thing I did not have a flat! I also found a mummified mouse and it's nest snuggled up to the jack's bag.

The 87 was 16 years old when I bought it. I'll bet yours will be low too.
This is also a good time to lube your jack screw (white grease?) and the threads on the long bolt that holds the spare tire up. Good practice lowering the tire and returning it to the stored position too. I dis this to my 91 a while back and tossed some paper towels and a pair of gloves in the jack bag just in case.
I did not find any mousies in that one!

Same story here on my 95. I happen to take it off just to do some cleaning and it looked original and had worn holes in the tire from being pressed against frame of car. Useless to be on there so I left it off and hope I don't need a side of the road intervention some day.

I would not drive any distance on a spare tire that came in our vettes stock at this point.
It'd be liable to explode on the road from being so rotten.
Fix a flat, a tire plug and a cig lighter powered air compressor are your better bets.

Good idea! I need to check mine too. All I did when I bought the car about a year ago is have a peek to see if it was there. Good to have a look and see the condition and make sure it's aired up too.
This thread got me thinking though and showing my age. Back in the sixties and seventies all my older vette's all had a full size spare. When did Corvette start using the space-saver spare? I guess I've been luck too as I've never had a flat on my vette's

FIFY. I deleted the spare tire and spare tire tray - the back of the car looks so much better. I carry a mini compressor and radial plug kit. And AAA just in case... with one 14-year-old car and one 17-year-old car, Triple A is a good investment.

When run flat tires became available, there was a spare delete option. The option included a brace that is installed where the spare resided. Without the spare tire you do not have proper protection if rear ended. I check my spare twice a year, I have a 95 and the spare tire is in great shape. Oh, I have run flat tires too.
