The poor idle seemed to be caused by a bad intake manifold seal. I tightened up the bolts that mount the upper plenum to the intake manifold. The loose bolts caused a vacuum leak and poor idle. The idle is just a shade high now and I believe that is a result of my timing. I will dial it back tomorrow from 10 degrees to 8 degrees and see if it lowers the idle a hundred rpm or so.

Your light bronze looked great.
I had a gold '87 and it kind of reminds me of that. I liked it too.
Although I like the light bronze better than the black, I doubt if I would change it. Changing colors takes a lot of prep time and disassembly to do a good job and make sure all the black is covered.

I agree that it may be a difficult job to do to change the color. When I paint the car I am going to tear it down completely and paint it properly. We'll see what time brings. I'm not made my mind up entirely.

Went out to the garage today and reset the timing and readjusted the idle. Now we are rock solid at a 700rpm normal operating temp idle. So far I'm happy with the results but since there's a lot of snow on the ground I can't drive the car to confirm everything until the snow clears out. Only a couple more months until spring.

The best is just after 1/2" of snow -- trying to get up a 15 dreg. over pass
3:AM -- I had to back up a 1/4 mile to a side street --- and went back home

Truly awesome to see this '84 come back from the brink of parts car hell. Kudos on this save...love seeing where you are taking it.

Lee, I appreciate the kind comments and I appreciate you following the thread! I hope I can do everyone here proud. Its my first Corvette restoration and even though I'm on a limited budget to fund the project, I've really been trying hard to do it right instead of taking shortcuts.

I quite like it. The down side is that its difficult to keep clean and shows scratches and swirl marks easily. But when its clean and has fresh wax on it, black is just a standout color!
