I want to remove the shifter leather boot which is torn on my 1985 vette with a 4+3 electronic over drive on console but cant figure out how to remove the shifter **** in order to remove the leather boot, can anyone help?

You need to pry the cap with the gear pattern on it off with a small flat driver, if it is similar to the automatic, there is a small snap ring that needs to be removed, then the **** should just pull off.
