Default Door jam inserts?

Hello everyone -

I asked this question awhile back, but received no responses.

On earlier model C4 Corvettes, there was a type of sponge-rubber material mounted slightly forward from the driver and passenger door jams. On the driver’s side, part of the material I’m referring to has to be lifted-up to remove the top fender bolt to remove the battery.

I’m not sure if that type of seal was installed to help keep road noise out of the engine compartment, or merely there to hide the hinge assembly.

Can anyone tell me when GM stopped installing it? From what I can determine, GM did not install it on later model C4s. My 1996 does not have them, as well as my neighbors 1994. I like the looks of them, and how they block the view of the inside of the door hinges. If I could find a set, and they would fit on my 1996, I would purchase them

Questions:

1) What are they called?
2) Who sells them?
3) What year did they stop installing them?
4) How are they attached?
5) Can they be added to 1995 and 1996 model years?
6) Has anyone out there ever added to a later model C4……any photos?

Thanks for your time !

WZR-1 -

Thanks.

Sounds like you're not a fan of them.

I did an eBay search. Nothing available at this time.

Is this what WVZR-1 is referring to?.....click on the link below. Look to the right of the battery - notice how the end of the piece is on top of the driver's side upper front fender bolt that's removed when replacing the battery

If unavailable aftermarket suggest finding a bulk weather strip supplier & make what you need. The stripping is sold by the foot or length & comes in various shapes/sizes.

Good luck

What I'm asking about is the rectangular rubber sections found under the hood next to the hood latches that came on the earlier C4 models. On the driver's side, it actually hangs-over the upper fender bolt that's removed when replacing the battery.

I was told its called a hood seal, but that term is also used to describe the weather stripping along the edges of the hood itself.

I was able to find a picture on Google Images (click on the link shown below) but I have not been able to determiine the exact name of the parts, or the part numbers.

Anyone?

I know what your talking about. If they are no longer available you will need find used or try to make them.

Had some time to kill, will try to help just once more but I don't have the patence to scan the page & post it.

"Y" Parts & illustration catalog, Group 8, Hood, fender & related parts.

Seal hood rear outer RH 14065082

Seal hood rear outer LH 14065081

Retainer push in (.250 hole) 10121502 (one per side)

http://www.gmpartswiki.com/gmpart?gmpartno=14065082
Also fits later years.

Churchkey -

Thank you !

It took me a while to figure-out how to read the diagrams, but you are correct.

I actually ordered a set already from a Corvette salvage company.

Thanks for your help

I never said I wasn't a "fan" - I answered your questions, 1 - 6 quite accurately I believe. There didn't seem to be a reason to do more at the time. You seem to NOT absorb and just keep implying that you're being "shorted" in what are quite accurate responses from everyone. When you got "pushy" with your rocker hardware locations I decided that was enough.

I assumed your reply "Not Me" to #6 meant you were not in favor of them. I was wrong - sorry.

And you are correct - your reply was quite accurate. Thank you !
