My '92 is doing great now at 50K but I'll be sure to consider this one for sure when it's time! I also just bookmarked you too!

Under the brass terminals of the cap and rotor is an extremely accurate hall effect pickup which never requires adjustment.

I've had about three Opti's apart and I haven't seen a hall effect module in any of them. (They all had two optical sensors. One low res for cylinder selection and one high res for advance and retard of timing.) I wonder if this is really an accurate statement or advertising babble from somebody that doesn't have a clue what they're talking about?

Hmmm... With all due respect, I would be curious to hear the answer to Klondike's question instead of just posting ttt to get the thread back to the top.
I'm sure other posters would like to know the answer to this too.

Sorry Klondike, had the our secretary bump the forum today and I guess she miss your question. We cut and pasted the OptiSpark description direct from the manufactures website. We had the same question and were not able to get a straight answer from our sales rep. So we ordered one to find out for ourselves. As soon as we get it we will open it up and find out what the truth is. And we will post pictures so you can see how the quality of the internals look.

Thanks
Christian

Thanks to you Christian for the information and getting back to us.
I know I'll be waiting to see the answer and hoping this turns out to be a good quality opti.
It would be great to find a quality opti for a great price. If it turns out so, I'll buy one just to keep around as a spare.

Here is what we found out about the ProComp OptiSpark.
It is not a hall effect pickup. It is a optical eye like a standard GM Optispark.
It is not is made from billet aluminum. It looks like a cast housing that has machining done to it, like the factory GM housing.
Some have red caps and rotors and some are black. They don't give a choice, its just a surprise. The quality looks real good. Even though its not billet or hall effect, over all for the money, it looks like its worth it. The one in our 97 Super charged LT1 Camaro was working good. Until the other day the Supercharger blew up.
Here are some Pictures of a new ProComp OptiSpark..

Just changed the Opti out on my '96 this past weekend...while referring to the FSM I noticed something interesting. Page 6-246, under Distributor Disassemble, Paragraph 5, is the quote - Do not get cleaning agents on the hall effect switch. Premature failure of the switch may occur.

If the factory says it's a hall effect switch, then...

Hi,
We broke open a opti module a couple months ago and it looked like little red lazer type things in it. Not magnetic pickups. Why do the call it OptisSpark? Optical? I don't know what to make of it. But from what I saw it looks like a optical system.

There's 2 photo diodes. I don't know why the FSM says they're hall effect, I was just pointing out to Klondike and everyone else what the 'Book' called it.

I know you were just sharing what the book says.Phat98. That is weird that the book would say that.

Hi Mike,
I think you'll be happy with it. So far, no complaints.

Hope your business is doing well because I like seeing this kind of aftermarket support for the C4s.

I replaced mine before I knew about your Opti. I hope I don't have to do it again but if I do I'll give you a shout.
