Oh, man - I'd LOVE to find a decent replacement for that old rusted-looking stock cover. That's about the only thing that makes my L98 look really ugly!

A pic of my wife's valve cover.

Along with the chestnuts I found inside the air cleaner.

Shortly after I got the car out of the barn.

Oh,
and a pic of mine.

It still looks exactly like this.
(I've put maybe 2k miles on it since '06)

i also have na L98 and the valve covers are brown and to be honest look like SH**. What was the original color of a 89 L98? want to change my covers to chrome but how hard is it? The drivers side looks easy but the other side looks like a beast to change, any recommendations?

Clean them VERY well sand them down with 400 grit then paint them. They cannot have any oil residue or the paint will fish eye. Here is what mine looked like when finished. I painted them with Duplicolor "chrome" then "clearcoat". the clearcoat turns the paint into a more aluminum like color.

Is the duplicolor paint or the clear coat you used heat-resistant paint? How does it handle engine heat?
