I removed my alternator in order to replace my valve cover gaskets. Its a 96 and the alternator is pretty cruddy looking. what have you guys done to detail it? seems like it would take a ton of time to put it on a wheel. and polish it up. have any of you painted it? just trying to make the engine bay look a bit nicer but I don't want to pay for a new chrome alternator. The air pump is in the same condition as well

I have used aluminum wheel cleaner and soft bristle brushes.

I just used a cup style brush on mine. It wasn't intended to look polished but just a little more like new. it really made it look better when I re-painted the black part.

Take the thing completely apart and have the cases blasted with walnut shells.
