How Did You Obtain Your First Corvette?
While pondering my purchase of a 94 six speed coupe, I went through all of the years I saved and what i did to get this car. People thought I was crazy when I tell them the story, and maybe I am and border line obsessed as well. This is the second Corvette I have ever owned, the first one being an 85 model with the much confused 4 + 3 Doug Nash transmission. This one burnt up in an unfortunate storage unit fire. After recovering, my Wife gave me a "Corvette Fund" savings account at our local credit union. Instead of taking out a loan, which was impossible at the time - had a large family I was supporting, I started taking odd side jobs and saving every chance I got. Paper routes, writing articles on the internet, pumping gas at the local gas station, well you get the idea. After 8 years and some odd months, i had finally amassed enough funds to start looking seriously. Found my pride and joy less than 30 miles from where I live, and the rest is history. Anyone else as **** and obsessed like I am / was?? Would just like to think that I am not the only one out there......

I really like hearing stories like this. There is a certain type of satisfaction one has when they save and save for Corvette; then after all of the hard work, the dream becomes reality. There is no replacement for being industrious. Not to mention accomplishing this while being responsible for the care of a family.
I did the same thing – saved, saved, saved. Seemed like the day would never get here that I could purchase a Corvette, but that day did arrive. I am now saving for a 94-95 ZR-1.

It all started when my dad took me a car auction. He bought a red '92. I was 13 at the time, from that point on, the saving began. At the moment, I plan on doing some modding to the C4. Once I'm done, save up for an '05+ C6. Hopefully, keep my C4.

I worked all summer long this past summer saving up money. I wasn't about to take out a loan and go into debt as a college student. I rarely ate out, and all my friends went on a big trip to Vegas without me. Oh well, 8.5k later late this July I got my dream '96, and have loved every minute of owning it.

I had a '70 Chevelle Malibu that I had owned for about 10 years. Pretty nice car but needed a little work to make it completely sweet. Then I got bit by the vette bug...the C5 vette bug, so I sold the Chevelle (one of my biggest mistakes to this day) and started saving for a C5. I saved for 5 years until I had enough cash saved up then started shopping. Found a few I liked then for some reason..and I really dont know why, I started looking at the C4's and liked what I saw. The only thing I wish I'd done was find this forum before I bought my '94 because then I'd either have a 95 or 96 with the vented opti...or I would have saved a bit more and gotten a GS

Completely by accident. Before I went to VN I left a 55 Chevy 2dr post with a friend. On his wedding day the car was all painted up and cans on the back bumper. The left the church and when he turned the key smoke poured out from under the dash. So when I got home, no car. He had an uncle that worked at a Chevy dealer in Oakland and we went there. I talked to a used car salesman and told him I was looking for a Malibu ragtop with a V8 4sp. After about 10 minutes looking at cars he said 'What you want is a V8, 4sp, ragtop, right?' Yeah. He said he had exactly what I was looking for. I asked where and he said turn around. I did and I was looking at a white/red 63 vert. He told me what they were asking and we went for a test drive.
Called my Dad back in Dallas to arrange to pay for the car, my savings account was in both our names in Dallas. Next thing I knew I was in the finance office. He had told the salesman he would transfer $1000 to the dealership and he would co-sign for the rest since he didn't want to drain my savings completely. Signed the papers and the next day started the drive from the bay area to Dallas.
That was the first of 7 I have owned. 63, 66 coupe, 66 ragtop, 63 ragtop, 71 coupe 454, 72 coupe 350, and the 88 I have now. People always say they bet I wish I still had the mid-years and my reply is I have the car I want now. My left knee won't let me drive a clutch anylonger and I like the blue/blue with a/c. I have had the 88 since 1999 and it has been paid for for years.

I'd been a vette lover all my life, but one day we were at a local car show and I was looking at a red 90 ZR-1. I I told my wife that I was going to buy a vette for my 50th Birthday and she said why wait till then! So I researched and found(not a ZR-1) one I really liked and bought it off Craigslist fom the original owner.

Found my corvette less than a mile from home at a local bank repo lot. This is the only corvette I have owned. Went for a drive with lady from the bank, dont think she wanted to go but she was told that she had to go. Got back to bank with a smile on my face that wife will never forget. Well how much I ask? She said 7500.00. I told her I would pay 7000.00. They called next day and said they would take that offer but I had to wait 30 days. Longest 30 days of my life. Drove by every day to look at it. On day 30 they called and said it was mine if I still wanted it. When to bank and got the money and drove her to a new home. That was Nov. 2005 and she has not spent a night outside. She must be a garage queen. I will not sell this car,it is mine until the day I die.

I used to collect ancient Greek and Roman coins. I had a nice display with about 100 coins, mostly Roman. I had most of the Roman emperors, except for those whose coins were over $ 500 for a nicely centered, well struck coin in very fine or nicer condition. In Dec. of 2008 I put the entire collection on Ebay, sold it, and bought my 1991 Steel Blue Metallic coupe with 43000 miles on it.
One year later I wanted more power so I sold the coupe and my partially restored 1914 Model T speedster and bought the 2002 Electron Blue Z06 with 22K miles on it.
Then, missing the driving experience of the C4 I sold my almost finished type set of US coins in very fine and better condition along with some extra stuff on Ebay and bought my 1992 Black Rose coupe with 49000 miles on it.
I paid cash for all of the cars and plan on keeping both the Z06 and the 1992 for many years.
I have one question. Does anyone have a nice C4 ZR1 they would want to sell reasonably, taking in a nice Black Rose coupe in trade????

I was born in 79. I grew up loving C3 and C4 corvettes. As a kid I'd stare and point when one went by. They were the coolest cars out there for me. I remember in High School with the C5 came out. They were cool, but they didn't have the same nostalgic factor as the C3/C4.
The idea of a Corvette just sat in my mind after college, starting a career, and then getting married. Finally I had enough to pay cash for just about any late model C3/C4 out there. I choose the C4 as it had more of what I was looking for. I'd still love a C3 though.
I searched and searched till on www.cars.com I found a 1996 LT4. Red on Red with 32k miles. We worked a deal and flew from Alabama to Colorado and drove it back. An 18 hour endurance drive home was the first bonding really. I with I had more time to do a solo cross country trip, but it was semi spur of the moment.

I'm 61 years old and disabled. I have wanted a Vette all my life but never got one, while working with a mortgage and three kids a Vette just wasn't going to happen. My wife and I were on a trip to Mo. with our camper I saw a 95 coupe for sale on a lot. Looked at it and talked to the owner (Consignment lot), pulled a carfax, drove it, loved it. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Went to bank and got a cashiers check and drove to the camper. Now what to do with it we winter in south Texas. Drove it to San Antonio and put it in storage and flew back to Mo. That was 5 months ago still love the Vette. Going to keep this car a long time.

bought this one cash in the later 90s and sold it to my buddy in the pic in 2006.
When we moved to Houston in 2008 I sold this blue truck and bought the 91.
I put this in it last year ..still tweaking it.

Got my first Vette for Christmas, 1968. It came in a Hot Wheels set with 12 feet of track and a loop. That thing would fly!
This past October, the doc said "Get your affairs in order". On the way home I spotted an extra clean 1994 Polar White 6 speed coupe on a sell your own lot, and it had my name on it. So far it has been the cheapest thing on my bucket list!

I drove a an Austin Healey in college love the darn car BUT it could not pull a rose bush out of the ground in 4th on a straight away... I finally broke an axle and purchased a used 65 300 hp Corvette convertible in my senior year ...(this was 1968) and I paid a little under $2000.00 bucks for it ...
I got married in November of 1968 and by February of 1970 the car had to go because frankly with a child and all the "stuff" that we needed to carry with us just did not fit let alone my Daughter...
Anyway I swore I would never ever sell another Corvette BUT I DID..when I retired in 1998 I sold my 95 Z51 6 sp for a brand new 98 Z51 6sp Convertible..
Today I have 6 Corvettes in my garage..and room or one more BUT don't bet on me adding yet another...If I ever buy another car I'd want a 49 or 50 Merc chopped with lake pipes and full length fender skirts

I got my 1963 Corvette convertible in 1975. It was riverside red and no interior, except the dash and gauges. It had flared fenders and a roll cage. It had been a race car, and had a blown motor. I paid $2000 for it.
My dad and I built a 350 four bolt main engine and used the headers and 4" side pipes from the race car, bought a complete interior and seats from a wreck and installed it.
It was great car and great memories.

I was actually looking around for a late 60's, early 70's car so I could have myself a little muscle car project. Then I found out that an old high school bud of mine had this '88 that had been sitting in his garage for over 2 years. Called him, made a deal and ended up with a project slightly newer than a 60's/70's car.
