my 87 needs new seats
I was looking to replace my seats, Well I bought some cheap off craigslist.
the problem is there red seats, which I thought I could use.
then decide I dont want to use red.
I posted them forsale on here, I guess no one else wants red.
Last night it hit me, I have a bunch of leather products. (from a Shoe store, I bought out back in the late 90's at Seven mile & Evergreen Locals might remeber it)
well I decide, I would try and strip them and redye the seats Black.
tonight I decide to test it out, on one seat bottom.
here is the first application.
It soaked up the dye and looks Awesome.
A couple more applications and they'll be awesome.

I did a lot this past summer, went from that nasty tan to charc grey. I liked the end results. My seats were shot in and out so rebuilt them.
I went with seat cover though.

You can tell which is leather and vinyl by looking at the back of the material, leather has suede on the back and Vinyl has a cotton weave on the back.

Here is the Stripper/Deglazer I used.
This is the Dye.
This is used after your done with your dye.
Then use saddle soap.
The Seat Bottom has had 2 apps and rubbed between coats and after the 2nd coat.
The Seat Back has had 1 app and not rubbed yet.

Be careful with saddle soap. Old leather has a surface coating and saddle soap will work fine with it. Newer leather is vat dyed, which causes the color to go all the way through the leather, and is an entirely different tanning process. Vat dyed leather does not like saddle soap. I believe all C4 leather is vat dyed, but I am not going to go out and scratch the leather in my 1992 seats to find out.

It doesnt scratch Or scuff the leather it cleans and softens the skin side.
I have never had my leather wrinkle, crack or split on me.
I have been working with leather products well over 30 years, and my Mother taught me the trade.
