Default sports seats/ regular seats/ differance

can get a great deal on a set of 90 sport seats..tho very, very dirty..can i switch tracts with my 86 to make them fit? Do I need to? Best of all, whats the differance between regular seats and sport seat beside controls on the seat side. $75 bucks a decent deal for both the seats?

The sport seats should fit the tracks in your 86. If they are similar to the 84 they have a pneumatic pump assembly, a seatback angle actuator motor, and a seatback side bolster motor.. It uses the same power and ground as the track..

That's a great deal, if they work. The functional differences are detailed in your owners manual.

I am 6' and 225, 38" waist. I found the 90 sport seats to be an abomination, for me! NOT ONLY were the bolsters on the 90s rediculously high, but the bolsters pressed against the outside of my legs such that my legs went numb after a couple hours, but only after hurting a lot prior to becoming numb.

And, I'm not a woman either! Them critters are natrually built a little wider than guys in the hip area. My wife refused to ride with me, unless she sat on a pillow, and then only for short jaunts. Something to consider, I recon.

I loved the seats in my standard 95 Vette so much that when a set became available (at Vette2Vette), I bought them and switched them out.

FWIW, I paid $550 ish for the standard 95 seats. So, you got one helluva killer deal on those sport seats, my friend. (I figure my sport seats would be worth about a grand, if the standards were $5xx???

Oh...I don't miss all the "bells n whistles" on the sport seats one damn bit. the 95s are that good. I can ride until the tank is dry (or my bladder full!) before having to stop.

Anyway... I hope you enjoy your seats. Killer price!

I agree, it's a great price for the seats...if they work. I also agree that I prefer the standard seats to the sport seats. And the lumbar bladders in the sport seats fail frequently in my experience.

Yup Paul is right if your decently sized not neccesarily fat the 1990 seat bladder button trim will dig into your thigh constantly. Otherwise they wil bolt to the track and 75.00 is a good deal.

The changes to the seats in i think? 95-96 to fit bigger vette enthusiasts.
This is why GM changed them.

Im 5'11, 160 lbs and like the 84-93? 'fighter jet' sports seats better because they fit me better. Im winding it out on an autoX or road course, curves, etc. I dont want to slide around.

I would not consider the 95-96 seats an upgrade. However, thats me and I can totally understand how other people would consider these to be an upgrade.

I do have a lot of bigger friends who I see cram into the passenger seat. Doesnt look comfortable if you are bigger, so I can understand your point!

My '90 Vert has std leather seats. I'm 6 feet, 235 Lb with a 40" waist. The thigh bolsters were very tight and painful even on short drives. Took out the seat bottoms and bent the bolsters outward. The only problem is this now rubs the bolsters on the console and emergency brake housing when the seats are adjusted so I help out the adjuster motors by pushing or pulling my butt in the direction of movement. It solved the problem.

According to the Corvette Catalog the seat track for '84-87E has a round pin plug; the track for '87L-96 has a flat pin plug.

It seems as though the power plug for your '86 would not mate with the power plug on the '90 track.

I wonder if the '90 seats would fit on your '86 track???

In Dave Mclellan's book, "Corvette From the Inside", he talks about how they use standarized (read: conform to standard human dimensions) manikins (sp?) as the basis for designing the interior of Corvettes (among others). The problem was, they used a standard that was several (decades) old. In fact, the average adult - even in the early 80s - were taller and wider, etc. than the average person some years ago. As a result the cabin and seats of the C4 are a bit smaller than the average person, which makes for a tighter fit for, as you said "not nescessarily fat" drivers.

Taller people, say over 6'2" or so, become folded up like a pretzel or have to lay the seat back way back to not bump the headliner.

In 95 (or late 94?) the former engineer for the Cadilac Division of GM came over to Corvette. It is he (I forget his name just now) that was responsible for much of the long needed refinements in the C4 cabin, including comforatable seats for normal (OK fatter too) people, as well as other creature features, squeaks and rattles were largely eliminated, and the much better ride shared by the 95 and 96s.

Just some Corvette (C4) trivia.

Keep in mind that GM did not make their own seats. They were produced by Lear and delivered to Bowling Green under the real-time system. Ken Way was the Chairman of Lear Seating during the early 90s. He was a Corvette C4 owner also. I know, becuase I presently own his former 1995.

Not sure that's even possible. I adjust my seat all the way to the rear and when it's back that far, the seat back is against the rear shelf. You can't recline it at all from that position. And I'm only 5'10"

As long as we're discussing all things seat related, here's a question. Every time I see mention of original seats, it's either leather or vinyl. My 92 has cloth seats. Were any cloth seats available from the factory that year or does that indicate they are replacement or recovered seats?

I gotta say on long trips they are the way to go - much better IMHO than the other two materials.

According to the Corvette Black Book

Base cloth seats were available only in black. In 1992, 480 were sold
