Yep. I've gotten as much as that on "instant" setting, but it drops way down when I switch it to "Average". LOL

...people I talk with that drive compact cars to save a few mpg. cannot believe I get 23+ mpg (avg.) in a fast, 22 year old, american classic sports car.

I know what you're saying. Notice in this case though, the display is showing the average, and that is on a 300+ mile tank.

My best was 35.1mpg at a constant 55mph on a trip to Williamsburg. God, I love these C4's!

That is awesome!

I've only had my 95 for a few weeks, but I recently took it on a 200 mile run thru the mountains; half of it was cruising and the other half was rather "spirited". I was shocked to average over 26 MPG! I can't wait to see what I get if I actually make an effort to get good mileage.

These C4's are incredible.

I averaged about 23 miles to the gallon when I went up for some "spirited" driving on about 100 miles of mountain roads.

Mine is currently resting at an average of 17.3 MPG.

I had reset it when I got the car, and I imagine the two months where I was still figuring out how to efficiently drive a manual car didn't help much. Just from observation on the Instant setting, I imagine my daily average is between 24 and 28 MPG. That's better than what my old '02 Jetta was getting!

I too was content with the mpg of this car. My first drive home after I bought it I averaged 22 mpg.

Heck, get on a long downhill and put it on instant mpg, it will go up to 99!

I can get those numbers when I fill with conventional 91 octane - NO ETHANOL. at ~4.50 a gal isn't cheap, but when I talk to the prius owner next door about mileage he gets mad a walks away.

I too have seen 30+ on highway runs. I usually get somewhere between 20-23. I do a lot of auto-x and stuff though so that eats the fuel.

The worst I ever got was 17. That half tank full of fuel was home to track, 8 passes, home. Then home to track, 8 more passes, back home.

17 is better than a lot of pickups ever get and I made 16 1/4 mile passes and idling time+highway driving. Try that with a carburetor. HHAHAHAHA....

My question is why are you talking to him to begin with?

He came over to rub his mileage in my face. So, it backfired on him big time. Not only does he have a lame little toy car, his mileage isn't much better than mine on the highway. Now, I don't talk to him, he won't come over.

HA HA!!! At my last job, there was this woman who worked there who was "in charge" of recycling/environmental stuff. She was a REAL bitch. Basically all she did was go around and give folks grief for doing their jobs. In a bitchy way. She was always giving me grief for my "polluting ways" (I'm in operations) even thought I recycled everything, ran bio fuel in our diesels, etc. She sucked.

One day at a meeting, with all my peers present, she "called me out" for driving a "irresponsible, wasteful car". I asked her (knowing the answer), "How many mpg does your Outback get?"
She proudly answered, "About 24. I LOVE my Subaru!"
I replied (in front of everyone), "Hmm. 24, huh? My 'Vette gets over 30. I'm not sure how that is irresponsible or wasteful?" Man....was she PISSED. I loved it.

I had a very spirited drive along the coast today and averaged 12.4 for the 85 mile trip.

Before that, the average was 24.3 which is incredible (for me).
