Gotta be dedicated to drive a C4! If you don't maintain it you WILL pay the price. My '89 is way more entertaining on long trips than the C6 ever was.

In 2003 I took my 95 on a 6000+ mile road trip thru 14 states & in 2005 took it on a 4000+ trip thru 9 states. No troubles at all ran like a clock. It averaged over 25mpg not bad for a 4spd Auto & speeds over 70 mph on the interstates. Great car to travel long distances with. :-)

Two years ago I made the trip from Melbourne Victoria to New South Wales where I grew up. Round trip was 2500km (1550 odd miles return trip)
I only had the car for a few months. I found out later that the car actually had a suspect computer that kept displaying the sys and few of the functions like rear glass defroster occasionally worked. Amazingly it never left me stranded and going by the average mpg I was getting 23 mpg.
Would love to do the trip again with my knowledge of the car now and the extensive restoration I have done and engine freshen up.
4:30am in the morning before leaving.
First petrol stop (gas) on the Hume highway in Victoria
Break in a place called Glenrowen (7:30am in the Morning)
Holbrook New South Wales
A submarine town? Mind you Holbrook is no where near the sea lol.
Caught up with a fellow forum Corvette guy with his lovely 69 near Canberra and stopped for lunch.
At dusk in Redfern NSW.
Familiar view for C4 owners, albeit from the right hand side.

I have a '92 vert with a LS3 Hot Cam crate engine. The engine was installed two years ago. Right now it is producing 430rwhp and 442rwtq. Has a new radiator, intake and 3" exhaust, etc., but other than the engine it is still a C4. Last weekend my father needed emergency brain surgery in Kansas and I only had a few hours notice. So I got in my '92 and drove the 1160 miles from Phoenix to Wichita through the night and made it in 16 hours. Three days later I returned the same way by driving 16 straight hours again. I encountered bad weather and many construction zones on I-35, I-40 and I-17. Including all stops and delays, I averaged about 72mph and got about 23mpg even though I am running 3.73 gears with the 700r4. The car ran great and I would be willing to take it on a road trip again. Only issue, no cruise control on this build and my right leg had a hard time holding the gas pedal down for 16 hours each way.

Took my 86 from Providence, RI, to Fort Lauderdale, on June 13th, never skipped a beat from here to Fl. Nice comfortable trip, car was excellent and comfortable on the long drive, and tracked, rode, and returned 24 mpg consistantly..no complaints, now, of course prior, I had all majors done, oil, fluids, brakes, coolant !!, very important. but she never overheated, never even sputtered..so I was pleased with the car, and how it functioned..maintenance is key, no question. L98, Z-51 suspension, Hypertech perfomance chip by prior owner, K&N, Borla Cat Back, no other major Mods, stock intake, TB and Plenum, 105K on odo.

Steve, hopefully we will meet down at "Vettes in the Village" this year in Old Mystick, ..if you attended past shows, you may see Your car in my pics, if you look at my garage. Best, "Doc", as in Navy Corpsman, with the FMF. is that what "Sailor" also references? Best, Derek

1996 Trip
Last fall I drove my LT-4 from Clearwater, FL for a weeks vacation in the northeast Georgia mountains. Drove all over the back roads from Helen to Rabun County, another day to Blairsville, and another day to the top of Brasstown Bald. All with the top down. No problems what so ever. Put about 2000 miles on the car in one week.

My wife and I just spent a week putting 2000 miles on our 1985 (with 122K miles). Only 1 small issue and a bad tank of gas. Car was fantastic. We drove from WI to KY to visit the assembly plant and museum. Then to TN/NC to drive the tale of the Dragon. Then up and around MI and back to WI. One of the best trips we've had.

Shipped mine to Europe for 3 weeks back in 2007 for lemans. Put about 2k miles on the car in the three weeks maybe a little more. No issues to report only smiles.

When I first got my z a little over a year ago, a road trip home was pretty much the first driving I ever did in it. Previous owner drove me around about ten minutes, then my old man and I drove it around about ten minutes, paid the man, and drove it how almost 800 miles and around 12 hours back to Mississippi; not one single issue of any kind. I've put around 4,000 miles on her and have not had a single issue yet.
