I'm sure the vents pictured here are real good mods, that actually do what they look like they would do
I didnt mean to imply you were, sorry if it sounded that way

On a different note: some members here have cut openings in the rear hood seal (base of wiper well).

What I see are vents over the wheel wells, great for venting off the wheel well turbulance but I don't see where the engine compartment is being vented that much more than what is factory. You have some pressure/heat that vents thru the openings in the wheel wells and some makes it's way to the side vents. I would really like to do some sort of hood venting on my 85 but I don't need to soak my engine every time I wash it, which is every week. To make them functional, you have to make everything else wet.

Years ago - when alternators routinely failed every other week, some guy invented a trio of fans that replaced the inner fender to exhaust engine heat. Made it into Corvette Fever and whatever Aftermarket there was - Ecklers? - had them in their catalog. Haven't seen them in years though a lot of alternators still die an early death. Maybe you could find them the JC Whitney catalog?

The three I posted are all inboard of the wheel well or only slightly overlap while still venting the engine compartment. If you want to keep the engine from getting wet, it's easy enough to build a shallow tray that is open at both ends such that airflow will still exit the vent while diverting water to where you want it.

For true technical advice on functionality or otherwise ask in the race section. There are reasons and ways they work. Just adding vents does not make it work like you might think.

Thanks agian for the continued input everyone.

One thing that I want to make clear is that I will NOT wrap my LT-1 manifolds when I do the swap, but I do want to wrap the y-pipe and cats. I'm going to double check with Magnaflow, but I understand that they don't have a problem with wrapping them.

My concern with water "pouring" onto the engine is cold water running directly onto hot exhaust manifolds and cracking them, and likewise for pouring all over the top of the engine. As has been said though, a simple tray could be fabbed to mount under the vents to direct water away.

Also, my concern is mostly with heat soak after shutdown rather than during operation. I do like the idea of an electric water pump running for a few minutes after shutdown, but as much as I drive the car (and as much of a PITA it is to change the pump), I don't think they have the longevity I need.

Maybe someone else has links to his sight.(site)

Exactly why I'm steering clear of a cowl hood.

Doubt much water is going to get in there if youre washing it meaning it would hurt anything.

Default old post on hood vents

I just read all the post on hood venting. And I don't know if anyone will be looking at this. But I have a question on a 1982 which is a C3 of couse. It has a cowl built under the hood and a louver that is to open at WOT(wide open throttle) A grd rom the ECM causes the relay to operate, which causes the louver to operate. The problem is that I do not know what causes the grd. If I grd it myself it operates ok. But the only way that I could think of to see if t does operate at WOT is ,I wedged a small piece of paper at the closed louver. Run the car hit WOT a few times and when I stopped and checked the paper was still there. Indicating to me that it did not operate. If anyone sees this I would appreciate some help.
Thanks, jimbil208

There's always the Toledo Pro hood, it has very discreet vents at the back under the cowl area and the heat does escape from there very nicely. I can watch heat waves coming out of the vents when I shut the car down.

I'm looking for some hood vents but they want waayyy too much for them so I'l figure something else out. There is a site that sells fans for brake and engine cooling just need to find where I put the info.

Fans would be nice but I think I'd prefer the passive cooling of hood vents. So far the Greenwood ones look like the best choice, but at almost $400 shipped, plus painting them it's a lot of $$ to vent hot air.
