For some of us cars are not just basic transportation

I'm with you Bob G. Always loved the Corvette, my transportation of choice. She's an 89 so there is maintenance going on, but I still love her and that's the bottom line. It's not the money, the upkeep... it's the fun of driving a Vette!

My '91 has >125.000mls, many of them driven on german autobahn. It's still the original engine, but the 4th gearbox.

I love hearing all this. I guess I'm also not used to driving a car with a large aftermarket. It's good to know that as long as I'm willing to put the time and money into it, I can keep it alive.

Yup, and if its purple it is better. I read it on the intraweb so it must be true.

I have a feeling this thread is going to last longer than our C4s though

A car will last as long as you want it to.

Amen to that brother. If it wasn't made by GM I don't want it. Chevy Pride for life

This is the most reasonable answer yet.

Hmmmmmm

My 85 has 170,000 miles on her and has the original star wars dash and switches they have never given me any trouble.

Have just replaced the 350 with a fresh 383
All the bearings were good the bore was glazed to a mirror finish, hey i could have honed the bores and put new rings in and she would have done another 170.000 miles. but hey you would not do that to your car with performance in mind
My 85 is my toy she gets the good bits

If you're hitting 7K RPM, it's obviously not on the original motor.

My 88 has 106k miles on it now and I only put about 2k miles on it per year. I expect it to outlive me and Kathy both. 58/57

Don't get me wrong -- most of my switchgear is original too, at 200K miles. But I've seen lots of other C4s with less mileage, with broken/worn/faded switchgear. Of course, the big variable is level of care by prior owner(s).

It will last as long or longer than any Camry out there...(not a big Toyota fan). Treat it right. Take care of it and it will take care of you. American Small block V8s have been around for over half a century, and they will be around for centuries to come. Drive it and enjoy it!
