Default cleaning throttle body

When cleaning the throttle body on my 94 LT1, besides cleaning the plates can I have the car running and spray cleaner inside?

Yes.
However, it's best to remove the TB to give it a proper cleaning. Then you can also use the cleaner with a brush or rag to work on the plenum opening.

It is very simple to do and you wont believe how much crap builds up on the back of your butterflies. After you remove it spray it down with Throttle body cleaner a few times to get all the gum and crap off it, I also cleaned the IAC while I was at it.

Once your hoses are off, disconnect the throttle cable and the electrical connectors, remove the bolts, and then a light tap should free up the TB. As part of the cleaning, use compressed air to blow out the IAC orifice. Make sure you know how the proprly reset the IAC when reinstalling. Use new gaskets if the existing ones are anything but perfect.

What's up with that? I have always wondered about that. You're feeding filtered air into the throttle body, so how can it get dirty?

My theory is that it's caused by the EGR -- just a guess on my part.

I guess the way to test this theory is to check with people who have deleted their EGR and find out if their butterflies get dirty.

This also applies to the IAC passages.

Does the coolant need to be drained prior to removing the coolant hoses to the throttle body?

I eliminated my hoses all together, extra heat not needed where I live and when I drive, you will have some coolant spill but not a bunch.

No , just put a towel under the hoses and keep the hoses hole up so no coolant will spill.

Thank You. I have a slight hesitation just above idle. I heard one cause may be a dirty throttle body. I have never done my own work on a car but will learn on my 93

Getting ready to remove throttle body and clean. Book says after removing accelarator cable it must be adjusted before reinstalling, anyone ever have to do this? Looks like you just slide the cable out and then back on when done.
