Turkey baster! That's what I used on my '95 & '96.

Perfect picture of them! I drilled a 1/4" hole right down through the middle of the large hole where the locking pin goes in. The water drained right out. No more collecting of water in them.

NOW I understand!

Went and checked mine, both are dry. I'll keep an eye on that from time to time, thanks for the heads-up!

That's a good idea.
I couldn't find one at home, but I got one from Melissa Etheridge. (used)

I would Avoid drilling, metal chips and untreated (drilled holes) will rust!

I drilled into the bottom of mine and added the drain kits.
This should have been done from the factory.

Y'all are overthinking this bigtime. Find the damn drain holes that are there from the factory, and clean 'em out every so often. Done.

GEEEZ! I felt this was a pretty good post for those of us who didn't know of this potential problem, and a possible way to correct it. There are obviously a few here here who know it all and feel it's not neccessary to post such dumb things. Is there a place here to check in with you before we post?

Why drill holes in your car when there's perfectly good holes in the part in question, right from the factory?

What drain holes are you referring too?
My 93 did not have any drain holes on either side.
Both sides held water until I installed the drain holes.

What do you think the "factory installed holes" are? HOLES! What's the difference? I couldn't find any factory holes in mine. One extra hole drilled into it isn't going to destroy the car. The new drilled hole would be visible to you but not noticable enough through the big locking pin hole that it would ruin anything and it would only take about 5 seconds to clean it out from time to time if neccessary. Maybe some would prefer to spend 20 minutes to take the entire thing apart and disengage the cable just to clean the clogged up "factory hole". It doesn't make good sense to me though. 5 seconds compared to 20 minutes. Simple.

Can anyone post a pic of the back hatch area referred to earlier in this post? I would appreciate it.

Later,

Lee

My early '86 has the holes there and no sign of rust anywhere. Perhaps Bowling Green omitted the holes on some later models for some reason.

Right where it meets the bow, on both sides. Just wash your Vette, on level ground or slightly pointing down and if you haven't got the drains in, you'll find it

Good, just pop up the rear glass, and in each lower corner you'll find the water pooling in there. I just use a turkey baster to suck up the water then dry it. I'm either too cheap, scared or lazy (not sure which) to drill the holes and install the drain kit

Thanks for the heads up. I was not aware of this issue and will check my 86 out to make sure there is no water pooling in the hood latch area. As far as the rear hatch area I did notice water pooling there when I washed the car. I just dried it out with a super absorbent towel. I too am afraid to do any drilling in the rear hatch area. If i find water in the hood latch area, I will drill a hole if there is none or clean out the hole if there is one there.

Once again thanks for posting. There are those of us who recently purchased our C4s (bought 3 years ago from my dad) and thought informed, we don't know everything about them, so this kind of info is always helpful to us.
